Gov. Jerry Brown warns of California education crisis
Source: San Jose Mercury News

Gov. Jerry Brown told Silicon Valley business leaders Friday that a demoralized and turbulent California educational system could undermine the state's global competitiveness.

Brown painted a grim picture of California's K-12 educational system, especially in poorer parts of the state, for 300 executives gathered in San Jose at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group's annual business climate summit.

"We all want lower taxes, but if you look at our schools and our needs, we have a lot of low income people," he said. "How are we going to equip them to be part of the world economy?"

Brown described visiting two schools, one in an affluent area that was doing well, and one in Stockton, that wasn't.

2. the stories from our local schools are frightening regarding cuts and services for kids
all because a handful of republican terrorists can and will hijack democracy. then again, when they are the majority, as in WI, they are also terrorists so at least they are consistent

...and out of my left eye something red moving along the first screen got my attention and brought me back to read the thread, so mission accomplished.

4. Love Jerry Brown -- but trust everyone gets the point, elites aren't interested in educating poor!!
That's another reason they are destroying public education --

they want segregation back -- elites vs a huge and exploitable population!!

7. You Can Thank Howard Jarvis for This One
Continuing fallout from Proposition 13. It is all but impossible to raise taxes in California.

6. I have a friend who is a licensed teacher. She was laid off and lost her home.
Now she is being offered $10 by the local school system to tutor kids.

That's downright insulting. She has her degrees. She is an experienced teacher. She did nothing wrong. And she is told that her work and her qualifications are only worth $10 per hour. That is what they pay students to do clerical work at universities. It is shameful.
