Coalition helicopter crew member dies in Afghanistan crash

A coalition helicopter crew member died and another was injured in a crash Saturday in eastern Afghanistan, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said.

The helicopter suffered a hard landing, ISAF said earlier in the day.

The incident occurred in the Alah Say district of the Kapisa province, where fighting has been heavy, ISAF said. As coalition forces sought to make a rescue at the crash site, they immediately came under enemy fire, the NATO force said.

Coalition forces returned fire with small arms and an air weapons team while they worked to rescue the two crew members, ISAF said. One of them was dead at the scene from injuries received in the crash, the NATO force said.
