Prince William urged to back gay marriages

Monday, April 25 2011

Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell today delivered an early wedding card to Buckingham Palace calling on Prince William and Kate Middleton to "express their support" for same-sex marriages.

A group of gay activists waved pink Union Jack flags as the giant card was unveiled for the Equal Love campaign.

They have launched a legal bid to overturn the bans on same-sex civil marriages and heterosexual civil partnerships in the UK.

Mr Tatchell said he hoped the royal couple would "find a way" to back the protest.

1. What are the chances that a rich, sheltered racist will give a shit about equal rights?

2. How is William a racist??
I'm no fan of the monarchy but I have seen no evidence that he is a racist.

You might be mistaking him for Harry, who had to apologize for using the term "Paki."

3. I think Harry was the one that dressed as a Nazi for a costume party as well.

8. Signifiing nothing.
A costume ball is just that, a costume ball.

His intent might have been just the opposite of what the persnickety might think.

Go to any costume shop and find popular masks and costumes of Hitler or of Nixon or just about anyone of note for that matter and the eviler they were the better for the masque manufacturers.

Does that mean the wearer espouses the hateful models for the masks philosophies?

Who wears the masques or costumes of goodly folk? The towns goody two shoes?

I have not seen any signs that either of the boys think in any way even remotely like that...with a mother like Diana...How could they? With Charles? not so sure.

I see well adjusted minds that have come from a place where well adjustment is hard to come by. One does not choose the circumstances He/she is born into.

9. Yeah.... I don't think the British royal family has some great love of Hitler

If he dressed as a devil at costume party, do you think that would mean he is a satan worshipper?

13. Shhh!
We don't talk about that. He left the throne for the love of a woman, not because he was a Nazi sympathizer and had actual meetings with Hitler's highest cabinet members several times wherein he gave up Allied plans so that Scotland Yard and #10 Downing gave him an ultmatum: step down or be tried for treason. All that is just vicious rumor (rumour?). ;-)

7. Being rich didn't stop the Roosevelts, or Ted Kennedy or a number of others from caring.
And I don't know that William is racist.

10. Both Diana's sons do a fair amount for charities.

If you're referring to the Nazi costume at a fancy dress ball:

1/ That was Harry.

2/ Harry had just about turned all of 20 at the time.

3/ The host had asked those invited to dress as someone controversial.

4/ Harry apologized.

5/ Concluding a member of the British royal family after WWII is a Nazi under the circumstances described above is quite a stretch.

14. Racist?
I hope you're willing to back that up.

The kid was born into the Royal Family -- he didn't sign up for it and he didn't marry into it so it's pretty hard to justify faulting him for being rich and sheltered. Look, he lost his mother, with whom he was very close, when he was a teenager. The press doesn't give him a minute's privacy and he's hounded by them 24/7. He has no choice of profession, it was bequeathed on him at birth. What a terrible predicament -- talk about no choices. Maybe we could have a little compassion for him and not withhold our compassion because of the size of his inherited bank account.

16. I'm betting he and his wife will,
at some point, advocate for Gay Rights. I'm hoping so, anyway. And, for all the vitriolic blather by those above with hateful comments, I'm sure you'll be right here on DU that very day retracting your hateful remarks, right?
