Black Florida judge forced from her home at gunpoint after a police mix up
Source: Daily Mail

A Florida circuit court judge was forced out of her family home at gunpoint after a police mix-up over a burglary.

Judge Ilona Holmes, one of the only black justices in Broward County, was holding a handgun when she came out of the Deerfield Beach house that was surrounded by gun-toting deputies.

It was only after she had placed the pistol on the front lawn that one of the officers recognised her and realised there had been a misunderstanding.

‘They said, ‘Come out with your hands up!’ She said, ‘I am Circuit Court Judge Ilona Holmes. I am armed.’’ said her sister.

5. How goddam stupid can someone be? Especially a black woman judge? Coming out of
the house holding a fire arm while the police are expecting a possible burglary suspect to appear is insane.

13. I read the link. The police identified themselves before demanding that she
come out of the house, yet she still comes out holding a gun!! I don't care if she yelled that she is a judge. How do the cops know that until she is identified? For all they knew she could have been someone other than who she actually was.

As a judge, this woman surely knows better than most people how many black people are killed by police in these types of situations--regardless of whether they are doing anything wrong or not.

I'm just glad this did not end in her being shot or killed.

6. Wait. So if she hadn't been a judge
then the police would have been justified in doing what they did? Why does her being a judge play a role?

I hope she remembers every single officer who was there, next time they come before her testifying about something. Maybe she'll realize their judgement isn't all that.

12. After reading the article...
I fail to see why the judge's race is even a factor or even who did what wrong and why this is even something controversial?

14. Because black people have a way of getting in front of police bullets
at a higher rate than other people and all over the country?

Killed by the Cops

This project was conducted with research assistance by Aliza Appelbaum, Beandrea Davis, Erin Dostal, Lynne Nguyen, Marine Olivesi,Julianne Ong Hing, Brittany Petersen, Alena Scarver, Seth Wessler and Shelley Zeiger.

This summer ColorLines and The Chicago Reporter conducted a joint national investigation of fatal police shootings in America’s 10 largest cities, each of which had more than 1 million people in 2000. Several striking findings emerged.

To begin, African Americans were overrepresented among police shooting victims in every city the publications investigated.
