Arizona governor makes Colt revolver official state gun
– Thu Apr 28, 8:31 pm ET

PHOENIX (Reuters) – The Colt revolver, a historic remnant from the shoot-em-up days of the old West, is now Arizona's official gun.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Thursday signed a bill into law that makes the Colt Single Action Army Revolver the state's firearm, making Arizona only the second in the nation to have such a designation.

~snip~
Opponents said the designation was ill-timed, coming as the state deals with the fallout from a massive budget crisis and only months after a mass shooting in Tucson.

A Navajo Nation lawmaker also strongly objected to honoring a gun that killed his people and so many others during its long history in the American West.

1. A state *gun*?
Most states have a state bird, a state tree, etc. But a state gun? That's fucked up.

18. My Father knew a Captain in the Army, that shot crows out of trees with a 45
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 12:49 PM by happyslug
Now, this was pre-WWII, about 1941, My father and the Captain was on some sort of detached service, sitting on the Rappahannock River in Virginia and drinking M&M Whiskey (Every time my father saw M7M Whiskey, the story would come up), the Captain was using a 45 Auto and doing snap shooting i.e. pull the pun bring it up, aim the 45 and hit the Crow sitting in the tree. That Captain was one of those "Disturbed" people we read about.

My father was an excellent shot with a rifle (1903 Springfield or M1 Rifles, through NOT the m1 Carbine) but NOT with the 45 auto, took to much time and effort to get that good.

A bow & arrow requires training & skill to use. That is why there won't be a State B&A in Arizona.

She needs to sign a proclamation declaring Crack to be the Official Illegal Drug of Arizona, considering how many Arizona politicians seem to be on it.

20. I voted for the Model 1973 Winchester rifle
Maybe it's because of all the old Western TV shows and movies I watched as a kid.

That said, the Colt Single Action Army is a historically important and effective weapon. I have a German replica that's a lot of fun to shoot.
