Rep. Lee Terry (R-Ne) gets an earful (a raucous town hall meeting) |
|
Source: Omaha World HeraldBy Robynn Tysver U.S. Rep. Lee Terry got an earful Thursday at a raucous town hall meeting, as baby boomers and senior citizens blasted him for backing a controversial overhaul of Medicare. Several accused Terry and his fellow Republicans of trying to balance the budget on the backs of senior citizens. “Why is it always on the old people?” one woman shouted at Terry. “This is totally unfair,” another said. 1. Unfortunately, an ear full doesn't get their attention as much as |
|
a contribution.. Lee Terry has been bought, paid for, and now
doing the work of his master. Kind of like a programed vacum
cleaner/answering machine combination..

2. The comments on that link are interesting. |
|
Of course there's the usual paid or volunteer GOPbots, but they're really obvious.
Can we hope that people are waking up? There's still plenty of things for them to be scared of,: Muslims, any other religion, anyone who's not lily-white, demoncrats. gays, lesbeens, ho-mo-sekshuls, libruls, education, commonists (spelling intentional), TSA, unions, invisible men, ol' Scratch/the Debbil/Satan, seitan, mezkins, anyone finding out where they really go when they "work late" or "go fishing" or "out with the guys," etc, ad infinitum.

6. Lee Terry (R) is a bought-and-sold Republicon corporatist wanker |
|
and the finest thing Nebraska could ever do would be to toss him out on his corporate-kissing keester.
I am glad he is hearing from The People of the USA for a change, instead of his usual fatcat paymasters...

"Michael Moran of Omaha said it was “naïve” to think the nation could tax its way out of debt."
It's either self-serving or extremely stupid to think it can't be part of the solution and downright evil to suggest we CUT taxes and then let the old people fend for themselves.
editted to add that Lee Terry is a garden variety bought and paid for GOP goon.

I don't have video, but I was there and it was a wonderful night. Most of the republicans there could not believe that someone would have different views from them. Their jaws were dropping. Most of the questions were about Medicare. My comment to Mr. Terry... I told him I was 54 years old and that I have paid into Medicare since I was 16. I told him that I will continue paying until I'm 65. At that time you and Mr Ryan want to give me a coupon to buy private health insurance. Insurance companies will not want to insure me at that time, especially since you want to repeal the protections given to me in the Health Care Law. Medicare was formed for that very reason. The elderly are to expensive to insure. The crowd erupted in cheers. My exchange with him on gas prices was also fun, but I'm running out of space.

I went to today's town hall. It was very tame. He ran out of time before he would ask me in my AFSCME shirt what I wanted to comment on. I hope he gets fried in Benson tomorrow morning.

If someone would call the additional money a senior will have to pay over the voucher amount a TAX, they would all vote against it. It's all in the messaging.
I agree with you about the Benson meeting.

Living in a red state can be frustrating. I still have a picture of Nebraska with a blue dot representing our electoral vote for President Obama on my frig.

11. Methinks these clowns are all going to be one-termers |
|
I'm pretty sure the majority of people are waking up. It's pretty hard to ignore this blatant of a screwing, even for Americans fixated on "American Idol," teabaggers, and our President's birth certificate. I get the impression that Walker, Daniels and all the other evil enemies of working people everywhere know that they have a very short window to try to push all this shit through before they get recalled or voted out in Nov 2012.

13. The problem has been what they can do in that term! As Bernie Sanders explained about the word... |
|
'Temporary' on the FICA tax reduction, it'll be handled the same way the expiration of the Bush tax *cuts* was. Not allowed to pass on at the time alloted, when the GOP had total control of all three branches of government, but extended.
They didn't call it that, though. They termed it 'the biggest tax hike in history that would cost jobs due to businesses being unwilling to operate in the USA.' Despite the clear evidence that businesses took the money from the cuts and invested it abroad all those years and hid the rest in offshore bank accounts.
They knew exactly what they were doing when they passed them, bought the media to sell their lie, and as Sanders pointed out, the 'payroll tax holiday' wasn't the boon for the worker it was touted to be for the working poor. It was planned and pushed by the same people who suggested doing it in the Reagan years to end SS for once and all. How close they are to their goal!
What damage these clowns can do in a short period of time may be irreparable. They know it, too, they're counting on it to position themselves to pick up the pieces as vultures. Their tax cuts are the reason for the debt, but after years of demonizing the poor, no one is paying attention to that.
They will push our country into an avalanche of debt so large the only way to get out of it is to sell off every real asset in this country to foreign nations, and/or reduce large masses of our people to peasantry. It's happening right now. Which is what the GOP wanted to do all along.

12. Terry, Fortenberry, asd Smith all suck... |
|
I am stuck w/Smith, and there is no plan for him to come to my neck of Plains. I used to have Foretnberry, and that jerk just went to Norfollk, visited some wealthy estates North of Town, then vanished. When I caught up with him the next time around, it was a "debate"...the D candidate was great, she took lot's of questions and answered them...Fortenberry just stood there looking like mannequin ready to let loose w/a sawdust fart.

The Omaha World-Herald very rarely allows comments for any of its news stories. This is a rare opportunity for a progressive show of force here in Nebraska.

Not surprising the RepubliRag cut off comments, since they were not obesient to the Corporate Fascist line (R).
Republicons - and their propaganda rags -- do not want to deal with facts or reality.

what generation they're playing with. The Boomers are paying attention and will be the first ones hit with these draconian machinations designed to destroy SS & Medicare. We're not done yet . . . not by a LONG shot.
