Bodies feared to be US civilians
By PHILLIP COOREY in New York
15apr04
THE remains of four men feared to be among seven missing US civilian contractors have been found in Iraq, the US State Department said yesterday.

No immediate identification was possible because the bodies were in poor condition. They were found in a shallow grave on the road between Abu Ghraib and Fallujah, near to where their convoy was ambushed on Friday.

It was unclear whether the condition of the bodies was a result of the explosion that consumed the fuel convoy or was mutilation carried out afterwards by the attackers. The discovery was made after an Iraqi tipped off coalition authorities that bodies were buried at the location.

A US State Department spokeswoman said the families of the missing seven US civilians had been notified of the find.
