WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush, breaking with decades of U.S. policy and outraging Palestinians, said Israel could keep part of the West Bank in a future peace deal that now appears more distant than ever.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie, seeing the sum of all his people's fears realized, immediately denounced the statement as unacceptable.``Bush is the first U.S. president to give legitimacy to Jewish settlements on Palestinian land. We reject this; we will not accept it,'' he glumly told reporters at his West Bank home.

Palestinian Negotiations Minister Saeb Erekat told CNN that Bush's statement violated international law, which viewed the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Golan Heights as temporary, pending a final peace settlement.

Why now for this pronouncement? Is he trying to make things worse than they already are? I am shaking my head in disbelief...

5. Yes.
With this announcement today, his stubbornly sticking to a failed strategy in Iraq, and last night's announcement of Negroponte as the possible Ambassador to Iraq, yes, I believe that they are actually trying to sabotage any possibility of stability.

3. Just remember, 9/11 had nothing to do with our Mideast Policy
They hate us because we're free. Keep repeating that until you believe it.

7. Major step on the road to WWIII
This defense industry policy will undermine world peace in a very profound and irretrievable way. They've dropped all the hypocritical posturing, it's conquest by brute force now. The consequences will bring about unprecedented violence.
