Rocket Attack Kills Mother and Two Sons in Iraq
Rocket Attack Kills Mother and Two Sons in Iraq
Thu Apr 15, 2004 04:05 AM ET

MORE

BAQUBA, Iraq (Reuters) - A rocket attack killed a mother and her two teenage sons north of Baghdad on Thursday and badly wounded her two daughters, neighbors and hospital officials said.

Two rockets slammed into houses in a residential neighborhood of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of the capital, at around 5 a.m. Walls crumbled, debris was strewn through the homes and a car was destroyed.

At Baquba hospital, the family's two daughters lay in a ward, one semi-conscious and both badly wounded. Outside, three coffins were readied to bury the dead.

"The first hit was just before 5 a.m.," Mehdi Saleh said. "The victims were our neighbors, they lost people. Why? It was an innocent house, innocent. The Americans want to harm Iraqis? Why?"

and the land your sitting on. But hey, it's for your own good you know. You need to have 'democracy' inflicted on you. And if they have to kill you to do it, oh well.

17. Thanks to all --- for the props
There are even more-- but I don't want to waste bandwidth. These are only a few of the

"HIC" = Hooligans in Charge.

And yes folks-- these "Morans" actually said all these things.

I'm still waiting for a good quote from the Viceroy-- but alas, he is leaving, I'm sure his replacement Viceroy Negroponte will say something even more outrageous. Maybe he'll even call it a "crusade for freedom" ---

7. There are no US deployed conventional rocket systems in Iraq
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 07:32 AM by Stella_Artois
FYI.

The US does have the MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) but AFAIK they are not being used right now since they are hardly effective in taking out small area's. This doesn't sound like MLRS because they way it works is that it splits up into small bomblets in the air, the rocket itself is not explosive as such.

I've read an email from a US serviceman that says that the Iraqi insurgents are using old Soviet made BM-21 rockets that are almost totally random in where they fall.

Rockets are used on US helicopters however, but are very short range. I don't see mention of a US helicopter being overhead.

I'm going into this detail to say that while i don't dispute that something hit these poor people we can't assume that it was American.

edit

the portions of the email i have read

getting shot at alo, about 20 mortar rounds a day at the base, rockets of small size every other day and large rockets about once a week. Shooting back and kicking ass. Got two last night. only one day here without getting shot at, the first day. Life is bad and getting worse. lots of pics but no way to send them. Spend about 2-3 hours a day in bunkers when not working because of incoming. Nothing like being in the middle of an uprising and a civil war. Much much worse than the news or the whitehouse is putting out. lost a few in the brigade so far, none of mine.

This uprising is fark shat bullets are flying all the time, we capped the last group that just shot at us. but everyone we kill tenstep up to replace, hearts andminds is a joke. But we are giving way more than we take, just 100 thou vs 20 mill is crappy odds, my 9 guys vs 20 mill is better odds just this ROE is hampering us. Going thru a basic load in ammo a week easy. a good portion of the rounds they shoot at us are duds, saw a fuel truck with a RPG round stuck in the tank today, that driver got lucky.

Take guess of what side of the political fence he sits on ;)

9. If the US was not in Iraq, that family would not
have been destroyed. We are 100% in the wrong in Iraq - every death that is a result of this conflict is our fault, period. Someone, somewhere has to make the goddamned buck stop!

13. What the avg Iraqi thinks is going on
Mafkarat al-Islam: Resistance from al-Karmah deals deadly blow to fleeing US military convoy.

In a report posted just after 1:00am Mecca Time on
Wednesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam's correspondent
in al-Fallujah wrote:

It appears that safety is still a remote hope for the
American forces even when they are engaged in withdrawal.
A group of American forces pulled out of al-Fallujah and,
outside the defiant city, they loaded their armored vehicles
on 18 transport vehicles and set off for what they thought
was the security of occupied Baghdad. But suddenly
the Resistance fighters made up of residents of the town
of al-Karmah attacked the convoy, wiping out the entire unit,
and setting all the transport vehicles and their cargoes
ablaze. The cargoes consisted of: nine tanks, nine Humvees,
18 armored vehicles – since each transport vehicle can
carry a Humvee and a tank or two armored vehicles.
Thirty-six American aggressor troops were killed, each
vehicle having a driver and an assistant. In addition, nine
more US soldiers were killed inside the tanks, and 18
soldiers who had been riding them.

At the moment the report was filed, US aggressor forces
had sealed off the area of the attack which is located 15km
from al-Fallujah, where the Resistance has prevented
the aggressors from making any advances against the
defiant city.

No wonder USsoldiers are shooting looters off trucks.
They must be frustrated as hell.

14. How much of this could be true?
Have we heard any other reports about an entire convoy wiped out in the past two days? Could they be the "contractors" that have been killed, but hardly reported?

21. How many marines have been wounded in Fallujah
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 09:03 PM by jmcgowanjm
have you heard that?

How many in ArRamadi. Heard that?

Heard about the MH-53? Nice Helo.

what's Meyers doin' in Baghdad?

Demoting some Colonels.

Marines got there ass kicked and Meyers is deciding whether
to use fuel air explosives, the only thing
that saved the Russians in Grozny.

Bremer 'is powerless to restrain the US military'

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/story.jsp?story=511587

I don't care if you believe it or not. The Iraqi's believe it
and that's all that matters.

And why isn't CNN in Falluja? Afraid/
AlJazeera isn't.

22. How many marines have been wounded in Fallujah/Ramadi
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 09:22 PM by jmcgowanjm
You got any idea? Give me your source.

There have been very few reporters on the ground in
Fallujah since the siege began a week ago, with the
exception
of an Arab news crew (alJazeera) and some correspondents embedded
in the rear areas of invading units. Locals say the Marines
have had a free hand to slaughter them because the
Western press is nowhere to be found.

http://www.occupationwatch.org/article.php?id=4103

Additionally, Fallujah residents say Marines are opening
fire randomly on unarmed civilians and have attacked
clearly marked ambulances, both violations of the Fourth
Geneva Convention, to which the United States is a
signatory. Aid workers angrily pointed out bullet holes
in the driver's side windshield of one ambulance, saying
its operator had been lightly wounded by US troops firing
as the emergency vehicle passed.

Patrick Cockburn- Independent

NewStandard reporter Dahr Jamail reported from Fallujah
on April 10-11. His editors are proud to note that Jamail
brought humanitarian supplies on the way in and
helped evacuate 10 wounded civilians from the war-torn
city.
