Sydney man charged with terrorist training: AFP (unbelievable)
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 05:02 AM by rooboy
Six months ago the Australian govt outlawed the Pakistani group "Lashkar-e-Toiba", so this guy has been arrested because he received training from them over A YEAR ago...the police state has arrived down under!!!

A 21-year-old Sydney man has been charged with being trained by a terrorist organisation, the Australian Federal Police said tonight.

The university student from Glenwood was arrested by federal agents in Sydney this morning.

In a statement, AFP commissioner Mick Keelty said the man had faced Sydney's Central Local Court and been refused bail.

He has been remanded to reappear in court on May 5.

"As the matter is now before the court, it is essential to respect the rights of the individual and the role of the court to determine the facts of the matter," he said in a statement.

The man, a medical student, reportedly trained in Pakistan with the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Toiba, banned by the Government six months ago.

The training took place during three weeks in January last year, Channel Nine reported.

1. He did not commit a crime, just attended a training camp?
I could understand this if they took him in for questioning, but to charge him with a crime? And at the time he trained it was not an illegal act?

Hopefully they have more on him than just this.

2. It's a difficult situation....
I mean, the group he trained with wasn't banned at the time and it's not like he can "untrain" himself.....

On the other hand, I wouldn't be too happy with somebody in my country who had attended a training camp with an organisation which is now recognised to be terrorist.....

Tricky...

3. Sure, I would want that man investigated
up one side and down the other. Have him watched, definitely. But to arrest him?

4. If he was a member of another nation's armed forces
And we went to war, he would be arrested. It is similar, only worse, with terror because they target the civilian population.

6. Try living in Miami, where there are hundreds of active terra-ists
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 08:47 AM by Mika
Just google "Alpha 66" +terrorism or CANF +terrorism or "commandos F4" +terrorism

Miami is crawling with local trained and active terrorists.

Unless you have lived in Miami you have no idea just how violent the anti Castro miamicuban "exiles" are.

This is just a SHORT list of what I could track down in a couple of minutes.

There are HUNDREDS more. NOTHING is done. NOBODY cares.

Unfortunately, many of these small groups (the anti Castro terra groups) have connections with, or are extensions of, US government agencies like the CIA, NED, SOA, etc. The hundreds of 'small acts of terra' in Miami are, essentially, US government sponsored terra against its own citizens.

If you live in Miami (and don't toe the anti Cuba line) you really know what terror feels like.

5. this is where civil rights
gets very sticky.
i'm not sure we can arrest every one who has had dicey affiliations.
it strikes me that this person{3 weeks training can't be very effective} could used as a propaganda tool by just about anybody.
this is why you want careful people involved in all of these cases.
