Probe Shows Iraq Nuke Facilities Unguarded
.
.
.

UNITED NATIONS - Some Iraqi nuclear facilities appear to be unguarded, and radioactive materials are being taken out of the country, the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog agency reported after reviewing satellite images and equipment that has turned up in European scrapyards.

The International Atomic Energy Agency sent a letter to U.S. officials three weeks ago informing them of the findings. The information was also sent to the U.N. Security Council in a letter from its director, Mohamed ElBaradei, that was circulated Thursday.

The IAEA is waiting for a reply from the United States, which is leading the coalition administering Iraq (news - web sites), officials said.

The United Sattes has virtually cut off information-sharing with the IAEA since invading Iraq in March 2002 on the premise that the country was hiding weapons of mass destruction.

The Bush mafia's approach to Tuwaitha should earn them impeachment and prosecution.

3. Read on - it get's worse - more from the article:
.
.
.

" According to ElBaradei's letter, satellite imagery shows "extensive removal of equipment and in some instances, removal of entire buildings," in Iraq.

In addition, "large quanitities of scrap, some of it contaminated, have been transfered out of Iraq from sites" previously monitored by the IAEA.

In January, the IAEA confirmed that Iraq was the likely source of radioactive material known as yellowcake that was found in a shipment of scrap metal at Rotterdam harbor. "

The oil fields are well guarded, right from the get-go!

Right?

10. Yes, but under UN monitoring/guard

They had a nuclear program before Gulf War 1. After the first Gulf War, the IAEA had control and custody of the facilities and materials up until the US invasion last year. The US kicked them out, and left the facilities and materials unguarded (including the yellowcake uranium).

Now it's been looted, and is mostly missing.

12. UNSCOM
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 07:42 PM by James T. Kirk
Didn't the UNSCOM inspectors leave in 1998?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_disarmament_crisis_timeline_1997-2000

Was IAEA able to monitor the sites without UNSCOM?

2. I never thought Bu$h would be worse
than Saddam but everyday he continues to prove that he is.

Bu$h must let in UN inspectors now! Or the United States should be sanctioned.

4. The Bush administration encourages nuclear proliferation
Look at their track record:

1) Removing UN monitors from Iraq's former nuclear facilities, then leaving them unprotected.

2) Exposing a CIA agent running a network involved in monitoring nuclear proliferation, thereby neutralizing her efforts over the years.

3) Knowingly looking the other way as Pakistan provides nuclear technology to North Korea.

I think it's clear. The Bush administration encourages the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction™.

5. can't wait to hear the WH response on this one
<A small number of Iraqi missile engines have also turned up in European ports, IAEA officials said.

"It is not clear whether the removal of these items has been the result of looting activities in the aftermath of the recent war in Iraq or as part of systematic efforts to rehabilitate some of their locations," ElBaradei wrote to the council.>

looks like bushco has made it easier for the terrayist to get their hands on WMD supplies. :eyes:

6. the point that we no longer "speak" w/the IAEA is pertinent to
the Bushco modus operandi. We are burning long established bridges in the international community...ties we may look to for support before too long.

7. I've said before -- it's as if they wish for death and destruction...
as well as the ruin of our own country. Could Bush really be moving us toward the Apocalypse his fellow fundamentalists eagerly await?

8. Remember when W promised to disarm Saddam
to protect us from the grave danger these weapons imposed? This is why we had to invade Iraq. What a difference a year makes?

President Discusses the Future of Iraq
Washington Hilton Hotel
Washington, D.C.

February 26, 2003

<snip>

In Iraq, a dictator is building and hiding weapons that could enable him to dominate the Middle East and intimidate the civilized world -- and we will not allow it. (Applause.) This same tyrant has close ties to terrorist organizations, and could supply them with the terrible means to strike this country -- and America will not permit it. The danger posed by Saddam Hussein and his weapons cannot be ignored or wished away. The danger must be confronted. We hope that the Iraqi regime will meet the demands of the United Nations and disarm, fully and peacefully. If it does not, we are prepared to disarm Iraq by force. Either way, this danger will be removed. (Applause.)
