Kerry launching ads as Bush drive ends

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-04-15-kerry-ads_x.htm

NEW YORK (AP) — As President Bush curtails his television commercials in 18 competitive states starting Friday, Democratic rival John Kerry plans to launch an intensified advertising effort next week meant to flesh out his biography and proposals.
"A lot of people don't really know who I am," Kerry told party donors Thursday at a breakfast fund-raiser in New York.

Bush campaign officials say their pullback follows the campaign's long-term strategy to flood airwaves only when voters are paying close attention to the presidential race and doesn't indicate financial problems or ineffective ads.

Matthew Dowd, the campaign's chief strategist, said Thursday that the campaign always planned to run different levels of ads depending on "windows of opportunity," such as in the six weeks after Kerry wrapped up the Democratic nomination. "The public doesn't have an eight-month appetite" for such intense advertising, he said.

1. Kerry 50%, Bush 43%
And this from Kerry sitting back and recovering from shoulder surgery while letting * open his big mouth.

If Kerry's going to run ads, they shouldn't be boring - they need to highlight this administration's "accomplishments" and provide news accounts testifying to same.

5. What's that old saying?. . .
"Never interrupt your opponent while he's committing suicide."

That's what I see Kerry did the past few weeks. Took a nice vacation, got some needed minor surgery, went around to the base collecting money, all while watching BushCo implode. Now that there appears to be a lull in damaging info coming out (at least, from expected sources), Kerry can now begin his educational campaign. He doesn't really need to attack ShrubCo. They've done enough of that themselves. Kerry can instead spend his time -- and money -- wisely defining himself to the voters.

From my vantage point, I think Kerry handled himself very well the past few weeks. Let's see how he does in the coming weeks.

2. The Republicans absolutely have ineffective ads.
All their spots advertise Chimpy as the war president. Oops. Back to the studios.

3. Haven't seen any of those
All we get are "Kerry is Bad" ads from *. I figured he can't run on Iraq, the economy, 9/11, or anything else, so he'll attack Kerry.

4. I like the protestations in your post from the
Bush campaign officials. Given where that's coming from, maybe they do have problems

7. Time for some positive biographies. Let whistle-ass's policies
generate all the negative news!
