US diplomats told to leave Saudi
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3630657.stm

Thursday, 15 April, 2004

US Secretary of State Colin Powell is to order non-essential US diplomats to leave Saudi Arabia due to heightened security fears in the kingdom.

"In light of the threat level and the information that we have received ... we will be having an ordered departure," Mr Powell told reporters.

Family members at the embassy in Riyadh and consulates in Dhahran and Jeddah will also be told to leave.

This is the third such evacuation in the country since last November.

More than 50 people were killed last year in two separate attacks against compounds housing foreigners.

Glad Bu$h made the world safer from terrorism by getting rid of Saddam. Not.

3. I'm confused. Why is ok to have unarmed and unprotected civilians in Iraq
but not Saudi were there is less, maybe good, but a lot less chance of something happening there then Iraq?

4. Because the admin isn't trying to justify a military escalation in Saudi
The way it appears to me...The more unarmed and unprotected civilians that are killed or kidnapped in Iraq, the more Bushco can beat the war drums to keep America's blood lust up and give the American public the excuse to support the continued occupation of Irag.

Plus we've got to keep the oil flowing. Never forget the oil.

5. That, and "non-essential US diplomats" are US gov'ment employees.
Not mere civilians, or civilian contractors.

6. I wonder if this warning
has anything at all to do with Sharon's visit and their subsequent press confab supporting everything Israel does.

7. Is the Kingdom about to explode?
It makes one wonder if the long-anticipated death of King Fahd Ben Abdel Aziz is near at hand. When he dies, it's been speculated that the kingdom will devolve into civil war, in which case, all bets are off with respect to any stability in the Middle East, and worst of all, the moderating effect of Saudi oil production.

It could be a very bumpy ride folks.

11. Yea,
Holding Iraq while taking Arabia. We are barely able to hold Iraq, if we have to go into Arabia, ALL THE RESERVES WILL BE CALLED UP and even than my money will be on Caliph Osama.

The only question will his new Capital be Mecca or Baghdad (Depending on which one we hold).
