Newt Gingrich had second line of credit at Tiffany and Co.

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich had a second line of credit at the high-end jewelry store Tiffany and Co. for as much as $1 million dollars, his presidential campaign acknowledged Tuesday.

Joe DeSantis, a spokesman for Gingrich, said that the candidate’s personal financial disclosure filing, which is due within 30 days of his formal entrance into the presidential race, will “show that the Gingriches had a $500,000 to $1 million line of credit at Tiffany’s, that it has a zero balance, and it has been closed.”

DeSantis added that all debts to Tiffany had been paid in full. He offered no details about when the second line of credit was taken out, what it was used for or when it was closed.

This revelation comes roughly a month after personal financial disclosure forms for Gingrich’s wife, Callista, showed that the family had carried a line of credit ranging between $250,000 and $500,000 at Tiffany’s during 2005 and 2006.

Always a good idea to have credit line for your wife's baubles, and seperate one for your Mistress.....oops, did I say that?

1. Why is this an issue?
It would be one thing if he had huge debts, but just the fact that he has large credit lines with zero balances?

Half our Senators (maybe more) are millionaires that may have huge lines of credit at many different places. When did that become an problem?

Gingrich is a 3rd tier candidate with utterly no chance to win anyway, I fail to see why this is an issue worth talking about.

2. The issue has never been that he's irresponsible with his money...
...it's that he's an ostentatiously rich guy who doesn't even try to pretend to be a "man of the people" -- nothing wrong with that inherently, but its a hard sell to make with the tea party faithful.

4. he's no 'man of the little people' as he pretends to be - exactly
Edited on Tue Jun-21-11 09:47 PM by tomm2thumbs

how many little people have 2 lines of credit at Tiffany's and one of them runs to a million bucks alone.

you hit the nail right on the head... the tea party is not his party

8. I get that...
..but half of the Senate or more are millionaires. They probably have credit lines just like that.

Gingrich is a 3rd tier nobody who's obviously not going to win the nomination. I just don't get why this is an issue.

His wife is an odd looking gal who looks like she's made of plastic, but I don't get why a person's zero balance credit lines matter.

15. It's an issue because he runs around calling Obama an elitist.
While he tweets from his luxury cruise in the Greek isles.

16. Okay, I guess I see...
I worked in the financial sector for awhile, so I'm used to people being approved for giant credit lines if their credit is good.

I'm not rich like Gingrich, but if I walked into Tiffany's and applied for credit I'd probably get a fat credit line. So long as I don't carry some massive balance, I don't see how that disqualifies me for office.

23. It's not the credit, per se
it's what it was used for. Remember when papa Bush didn't know the price of milk? Who spends that kind of money on bling? He's an ostentatious supercilious ass with no idea how the common folk live..

21. They are chiding the lazy poor for taking out loans they could not pay in full upon unemployment.
Edited on Wed Jun-22-11 12:10 AM by WingDinger
It's all those crooked people taking out loans that the mortgage slaves were required to give them yadda yadda, This dumbass takes out loans he cannot pay off either. And I would bet dollars to donuts he found a sugardaddy to pay the bill.

In fact I am kinda itchy for a Rolls right now. Think I'll run down and get a couple.

19. It's an issue b/c Mrs. Newt worked for the sub-committee that was
involved with legislation involving mining and something Tiffany's had an interest in, so if they were giving them zero interest loans and giving nobody else zero interest loans it seems like a payoff to her, for influence.

27. A million dollar line of unsecured credit
while he was enjoying the FIRST half a million dollar line of unsecured credit. While his wife was a bigwig at the org deciding mining rights, which Tiffany was very interested in. All this credit was over 10% of Mr. Gingrich's reported wealth.

I'd be curious to know what the shareholders of Tiffany thought about this. It's hard to believe they're handing out no-interest, unsecured credit lines of that size to just anyone.

Calista is the woman he cheated with while married to the woman he cheated with while his first wife was recovering from surgery.

Patriotism, you know.

18. Speaking of cruel
He had the divorce papers served on his wife in the hospital while she was being treated for cancer. He remarked she was too ugly to ever be the First Lady.

If he thinks looks are THAT important to occupy the White House, why is HE running for the Presidency? I hope someone can explain this to me....

Sam

24. enough about Newt ... as Newt loves the attention
Edited on Wed Jun-22-11 03:59 AM by MacNfries
I continue to be amazed at the publicity this fool gets ... WHY? He is seen and means NOTHING more to most people than an old "fat cat" politician raking in CASH for his books & speaking engagements to feed his fat cat habits & bleach blond wife. Privately Newt goes off in a corner and smiles as he continues to even get press & ink time. WHY does he get any press time?

Newt is as serious about running for President as I am running for the Presidency of Pakistan. The only reason his ENTIRE campaign staff hasn't walked out on him is because some of them need jobs.

We, as taxpaying citizens, are being played as the fools we are for even reading his BS ... ENOUGH!
