Democratic Rep. Jay Inslee announces bid for governor
By Jerry Cornfield, Herald Writer

SEATTLE -- Democratic U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee entered the 2012 race for governor this morning, laying the foundation for a nationally watched battle with Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna, who declared his candidacy earlier this month.

While Inslee begins as the presumptive Democratic frontrunner, he may not be the party's only candidate. Two other prominent Democrats -- state Auditor Brian Sonntag and state Treasurer Jim McIntire -- are mulling a run for the office.

Inslee, 60, of Bainbridge Island, is in his seventh term representing the 1st Congressional District, which takes in south Snohomish County and parts of King and Kitsap counties.

He began his political career in the Yakima area, where he planned to hold a second kickoff event later today.

1. Okay, it might help to mention that this is for Governor of Washington.
If, like me, you automatically skip the dateline on the article, it doesn't actually tell you what state we're talking about.

3. We really have to get to work
for him. If McKenna gets in WA will turn into another Wisconsin.

5. Agree. We have a battle on our hands here.
Inslee is wildly unpopular on the east side. Though, we've made inroads in the east side of the lake, bellevue, redmond, etc.

6. He did join the lawsuit
over the health care plan. No - he doesn't get out there with the tea party but I bet he listens to the like of the Koch brothers and ALEC.
