Boehner: 'Maybe 50-50' Chance of a Debt Deal Reached Within 48 Hours
Source: National Journal

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, informed fellow House Republicans on Thursday that the chances of congressional leaders and President Obama reaching a tentative debt-ceiling deal within 48 hours are “maybe 50-50.”

That prognosis from Boehner was relayed by several House Republicans as they left a morning briefing with the speaker -- and later confirmed by a GOP leadership aide. Boehner and other Republican and Democratic congressional leaders are set to continue negotiations at the White House on Thursday on a deal to raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt ceiling.

“I get the impression that it’s better than 50-50,” said Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y. “It will be agreed upon in the next 48 hours; if not, it won’t be for a long time.”

5. It won't.
Nobody's even been talking about actually raising taxes on the rich. The most Obama's offered is eliminating "tax loopholes".

18. I agree, but I still ask "would you accept the cuts to SS if income taxes are increased on the rich"

Simple yes or no. I'm just trying to get folks' opinions, not "it will never happen", "what country are you living in", or any other of that lame crap to dodge the question.

My answer 'No'. See how simple that was?!

16. If Obama caves that big on SS or Medicare
he's sealed his fate as an ineffective, lying, Repug, one term president, and I say good for him. That's what traitors deserve! Who it won't be good for is the country, working people, anyone except the ultra rich and the Repug party. They will win huge and destroy this previously awesome country forever, or at least a hell of a long time. No one will trust Dems. We will have to form a new party to have any voice at the table whatsoever. That is, of course, if elections aren't outlawed first.

14. message to President
Dear Sir,

This is in regards to the fight for an increase in debt ceiling. I have become alarmed by what I have been hearing from President Obama about cuts to SS and Medicare. If the president goes along with any cut to these programs; I will no longer support his reelection effort. I will be withholding my vote and financial support. I will also hope and work towards finding a primary challenger for the democratic nomination. I am a moderate Democrat and believe in compromise, but the president has rolled over to many times to this extremist Republican party. I am tired of it. If he continues on this course he will lose my vote in 2012. I urge the Senator to block any bill that guts SS, Medicare, and Medicaid. I am 41 years old, and will need these programs when I retire. Taxes should be raised for high income earners, as well as everyone else. I don’t like taxes as much as the next guy, but they are a necessary evil. I will pay more for the current recipients of these programs, as long as I know they will be there for me.

This is the message I sent to the president and my senators from Rhode Island. If he caves I am done with all of them.
