Danes charged over WMD reports

The Danish Government has laid criminal charges against one of its former defence analysts and two journalists in yet another case of a defence establishment whistleblower embarrassing a US ally over the alleged abuse of intelligence to justify the war on Iraq.
Former intelligence officer Major Frank Soeholm Grevil has been charged with breaching Denmark's official information act for leaking classified defence reports he had co-written to the reporters.
He alleges Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen misrepresented the reports while making the case for war.
<snip>
Mr Fogh Rasmussen said before committing a Danish submarine and a warship to the US-led invasion that his Government did not just believe that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, it knew it for a fact.

3. Let's see...
How long was Dreyfus persecuted by the French government in the 1890's? Something like 10 years on Devils Island. The wheels of justice grind slowly. Often, we are too old to enjoy ultimate vindication, and those who are young don't appreciate the sacrifice necessary to bring out the truth. They think since it happened early in their life, that justice moves swiftly - when in truth it usually takes years.

Remember, one year into Vietnam, everybody was in favor of U.S. involvement. It literally took ten years before a solid majority of Americans opposed it.

5. The US is getting a refresher on the lessons of Vietnam. Not 10 years -
Not this time.

6. Or check out Mordecai Vanunu for another example of injustice.
I hear he's going free finally. I hope that's true. The man is a true hero.

7. Amazing how this travesty affected relatively peaceful polities like Danes
The Danish P.M. may be only a bit player in the cast of liars that trumped up the justification for the war, but I am sure the episode is painful to most Danes. Countries, like people, have to work hard to build up a good reputation, and one liar like this can do a lot of damage in a short time. Let's hope the Danes do the right thing in the next election, and cast this guy out the way that the Spanish did to their liar. This "whistle blower" should be congratulated for his honesty and integrity, rather than prosecuted.
