Abortion-rights activist plans Wichita clinic
Source: Kansas City Star

WICHITA | The woman who once ran the political organization for slain abortion provider George Tiller is raising funds to open a clinic in Wichita.

Julie Burkhart, now executive director for the St. Louis-based Trust Women, said her group hopes to be able to open a clinic offering first-trimester abortions and other women's health services in Wichita in about a year. The group is now trying to recruit a qualified physician for the clinic.

Abortions have not been openly performed in Wichita since Tiller was shot to death in May 2009. Burkhart once ran Tiller's political action committee.

She says Trust Women has raised about 25 percent of the money it needs for the Wichita clinic in pledges and commitments.

Good luck Julie in raising the funds needed. So far no clinics in Kansas have been forced to close thanks to U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia temporarily blocking Kansas from enforcing new regulations that would have forced two of the state’s three abortion providers to stop terminating pregnancies. The injunction will remain in effect until a trial is held in a lawsuit challenging the Kansas rules.

5. Seeing as the coward shot Tiller in the head at close range and
by surprise, I doubt that Tiller's having a pistol or not would have changed anything.

8. Corporation

She had better make sure this new organization is set up as a corporation. Then, she can do anything she wants, and the nutjobs can't try to shut her down. Bonus points for some kind of alliance with the NRA, maybe along the self-defense angle. If she goes that route, she won't be bothered a bit.

9. "Trust Women" is such a great name for the organization.
I'll be sending money. If I win the lottery, I'll be sending a LOT of money!
