Dismembered remains of missing NYC boy Leiby Kletzky found
Source: CBS News

The intense hunt for a missing Brooklyn boy Leiby Kletzky has taken a shocking and tragic turn, as police say they have believe they have recovered the dismembered remains of the 9-year-old.

Police say half of Leiby's body was found following a search in a refrigerator inside the Brooklyn home of a man now being questioned by detectives.

Half of Leiby's remains were found in a dumpster in another Brooklyn neighborhood, reports CBS station WCBS.

Those remains were found wrapped in a black plastic garbage bag, inside a red suitcase that had been tossed into a trash bin.

Stuff like this absolutely makes my stomach churn.

Hey Nancy Grace, here is a case you can cover.

1. Innocent until proven and all that but....
...it IS kind of hard to explain half a body being kept in your fridge. IANAL but if I were prepping a defense it would be "either tell me how strangers access your fridge or find Jesus and learn how to cry on cue during sentencing hearings..."

2. Considering the boy was an orthodox Jew
the comment and defense are inappropriate.

11. Me thinks your comments are knee jerk reactions;
Granted, in a perfect world the victim's name would not be called into question much less have one deity's name called into fake help over another. However, the recent spate of lawmakers and other elected officials claiming that their inspiration and rulings are infallible negates your claims. I know of no other religion that who's supposed claimants make statements such as these. Theocracy, here we come.

your comment seems to be the one out of place...

8. Why are they not releasing the name of the suspect?
Is he a juvenile? Is he part of the Hasidic community too? If not, could it possibly be a hate crime? Seems strange.

27. Probably because he hasn't been officially charged yet...
and in crimes like this, if the police release his name, but later clear him of suspicion, his name is gonna be shit, because some people will always believe he was responsible no matter the evidence to the contrary...

37. They have released his name in the NY papers, although I have
forgotten it. The man is in his 30's and is a member of the Orthodox community, but not the Hasidic community. As far as I know, no motive was stated other that that he "panicked", whatever that means.

more details in the NYT article:

The house where the remains were found is the next neighborhood over from Borough Park. It's less than a mile from where the child was last seen.

Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 11:09 AM by Hassin Bin Sober
One thing that jumped out at me was how they got him. He was seen, on surveillance camera, with the child and later entering his dentist's office. With his dentist's records, they were able to track him - I sure hope they secured the proper warrants.

17. Sad and horrific.
Looks like he may have gotten lost as it was his first time walking home and asked the
wrong person for directions. I doubt this was hate crime related. It looks like a psychopath
did it. I seriously doubt Nancy Grace will be covering it much as the victim wasn't a white
little girl. The ratings wouldn't cut it for Nancy. Not enough money in it.

22. More details from NY1
http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/142809/police--brooklyn-man-admits-to-killing--dismembering-lost-boy

When the detectives asked Aron where the boy was, Kelly said Aron nodded to his kitchen, where investigators found a refrigerator containing bloody knives and human remains.

snip

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Aron had a prior criminal summons for public urination, and now authorities are trying to find out more about the suspect.

Aron, who is believed to be an orthodox Jew, was originally from Brooklyn but spent some time in Memphis before moving back to the borough two years ago.

He was employed at a Brooklyn maintenance supply company and lived in the same house as his parents and uncle.

Neighbors gathered today in front of the Borough Park residence of the Kletzky family and members of the area's close-knit Hasidic Jewish community were sickened and shocked that the two-day search for the boy ended this way.

28. I give the family and neighbors a great deal of credit, they worked so fast to get the word out
for everyone to look for the boy. This type of crime seems to happen so fast after
an abduction, and everyone not only hoping/praying but working so hard to find him safe.

What a nightmare, too sad for words. RIP Leiby.

31. Heartbreaking- his first time walking home from school alone. This is a very safe neighborhood too.
"The police said it was the boy’s first day of walking from the school by himself. “He’d asked his parents’ permission to walk home alone and the parents were waiting outside” for him to return, Mr. Browne said."

Also of note, "On Tuesday night, a group of 20 Pakistanis offered to join the search."

34. People scoff at DUers who they deem as "overprotective" with their children
or even anyone in the US who doesn't allow their kids to wander/play/frolic from morning til night.

Its stories like this that strike fear into any parent's heart. When do you let your child go alone?

Honestly, my kids were never allowed to walk anywhere alone at 9 years old, and we lived in Wheaton IL, bible capital of the world. That's 3rd grade. Way too young. And in the city? No way.

35. he was about to turn 9 years old so he wasn't even close to 10
i agree it is very young. at least even in a group with other kids but not alone at that age.

i would say 11 or 12 but preferably 13. it might depend on the kids also.

but looking at pictures of this boy he was still a baby.

38. Fear of the general should not be caused by the fearsomeness of the specific
Strangers abducting children on the street and killing them is incredibly rare. Taking precautions to guard against every possible harm is indeed overprotective, and impossible. Far more kids die in any number of ways that no parent can or ever really thinks about preventing. Worrying about a child being killed in this manner to such an extent that it drives your decisions about allowing them freedom is akin to assigning them a bodyguard when they visit relatives and friends, since these groups commit more than 2/3 of the violent crimes where this age group is the victim.

39. For future reference
New York Penal Law § 40.15

§ 40.15 Mental disease or defect.
In any prosecution for an offense, it is an affirmative defense that
when the defendant engaged in the proscribed conduct, he lacked criminal
responsibility by reason of mental disease or defect. Such lack of
criminal responsibility means that at the time of such conduct, as a
result of mental disease or defect, he lacked substantial capacity to
know or appreciate either:
1. The nature and consequences of such conduct; or
2. That such conduct was wrong.
