Bush Nominates, Appoints 24 to Various Posts (Recess Appts)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush nominated or appointed 24 people to various posts on Friday.

Bush used the presidential power to appoint four nominees while Congress is in recess -- something that has infuriated Democrats, especially when it involves judges.

In this case, Bush is promoting four men and women to federal positions including undersecretary of education Eugene Hickok to become Deputy Secretary of Education.

Twice this year, Bush has bypassed the Senate on judicial nominations. In February, he installed Alabama Attorney General William Pryor on an Atlanta appeals court. He also used the recess procedure to name Mississippi Judge Charles Pickering to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

2. Isn't there a lawsuit pending about one of the prior recess appointments?
I don't remember which- Pryor or Pickering, but Ed Kennedy claimed that it wasn't constitutional because Congress wasn't really in recess, it was just a break.

Anyone know the status?

3. With all the cramming of Federalist Society cronies...
...into the Judicial closet, we could hope they'd wither on the vine from overexposure and overpopulation. JIMMINY CRICKET! If citizens of the US don't step up and tell Bush to STEP THE F*K OFF, the world community had best do so before it's too late.

4. This action smacks of a cash out and flee mode. I think they know
they are going to lose and they just don't care about appearances.
Could also be more of the same in your face just to show ya we
can bully mode. Who knows with this group of grifters.
