Suicide attack hits memorial for Karzai's brother

Kabul: A suicide attacker struck a memorial service being held in a mosque for the assassinated half-brother of Afghanistan's president in the restive southern city of Kandahar on Thursday, officials said.

Interior ministry spokesman Siddiq Siddiqi confirmed there had been a suicide bombing and that there were casualties, but said there was no further information as yet.

A member of Kandahar provincial council who was attending the prayers being held in memory of the president's brother Ahmed Wali Karzai said, "It was a suicide bombing. It was inside the mosque. I saw one dead and four injured in there. The service was about the end when it happened."
