WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Iowa First Lady Christy Vilsack has raised more than $420,000, a strong quarter for the political newcomer as she eyes a potential challenge of longtime GOP Rep. Steve King.

Vilsack hasn't formally entered the race for Iowa's newly constructed 4th Congressional District, but has formed an exploratory committee.

According to her campaign, she raised $424,339 during the second quarter of 2011. King, her potential opponent has not announced how much he took in during the second quarter. He reported $142,610 cash on hand at the end of March. Candidates are required to release their fundraising reports by July 15.

Vilsack says she is "inspired and humbled" after touring the 4th District over the last few months. Her husband is former Iowa Gov. and current Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

6. I'd like a more liberal candidate, but if this is the best Iowa can get, so be it,
I suppose. My Democratic relatives in Iowa are really liberal. Parts of Iowa were a liberal, farmers' cooperative and labor area in the 19th century.
