Republican tax stand a bust with public

House Republicans who refuse to consider tax increases as part of a debt ceiling deal are out of step with most Americans, according to two new polls.

That's bad news for Republicans who are betting the farm on resisting Democratic efforts to raise taxes on the rich.

When looking to reduce debt, politicians can employ two tactics. The first is to cut spending. The second is to raise taxes. Most budget experts say you need to do both.

A full 67% of Americans favor a deal to raise the debt ceiling that includes taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations, according to a poll released Thursday by Quinnipiac University.

3. I don't understand why they think that
Every poll shows that the public would blame the Repukes for a default and they would never get another person elected again. I know they are crazy but I can't believe they are that far gone.

8. No, I don't believe they do.
They just know that they are being/will be very compensated by their wealthy donors when they either leave office or are voted out. They are (from their morally bankrupt perspective anyway) pretty much in a no lose situation. That is why they can lie with a straight face the way they do. They know in the end, they will never have to do another honest days work in their life, if they ever did.

I've been posting polling on this over a week now

Even in RATpubliCON strongholds (Ohio) overwhemling Majorities want No Cuts in Benefits and Tax Loopholes Closed. The pole I posted showed only 20% want Cuts Only

The best part is that despite the polling Republicans refuse to believe this!

14. Heh heh. They're learning the hard way there's a big fat difference
between not wanting/needing a government service and not willing to pay for such.

Government is a lot like a lawyer - everybody like to hate them until a time comes when they really need one.

10. Dems need not be afraid of the tax issue anymore - they ought to embrace it!

Republicans still think a Democrat who says we need to raise taxes will be defeated like Walter Mondale. What they don't realize, amazingly, is that we aren't living in the 1980s anymore.

Times change. Republicans don't.

21. The rich are not in a recession... Why can't we call the idiot on this?
We are in the middle of the biggest transfer of wealth to the upper classes since just before the Great Depression. The rich are doing quite well. Why are we letting the rethugs make people think they are not?
