Vanderleest JailGOP, Scott Walker Must Demand Dave VanderLeest Withdraw From Recall Race

New Child Abuse Allegations Render Candidacy Untenable

MADISON -- The Democratic Party of Wisconsin on Thursday called on Scott Walker and the Republican Party of Wisconsin to demand the immediate withdrawal of Dave VanderLeest as a candidate for the Senate after disturbing allegations of child abuse were published late Wednesday.

VanderLeest, who was deputized by Republicans to run the recall efforts against Sen. Dave Hansen, has a documented history of domestic abuse, but the new allegations appear to be part of an ongoing investigation by the Oconto County Sheriff's Department.

PolitiScoop, an advocacy website, published Wednesday an incident report in which a child tells investigators about being kicked and bruised by VanderLeest; and in which his former spouse details a pattern of abuse and drug use by VanderLeest.

3. As busy as he's been, whacking his kid, he has also taken the time to terrorize the little woman.

gop Candidate Has Wife Beating Past
realitybasedbob • July 6, 2011

~snip~
From the first report here (7/30/06) an intoxicated David Vanderleest had an argument with his wife and proceeded to throw her across the kitchen and prevent her from calling 911 for help. Once help arrived Vanderleest tried to evade police but was arrested. Included in the officers’ notes is a statement that this was not the first time Vanderleest had beaten his wife. Yes this lowlife mouse of a man had a history of beating his wife? Maybe it makes him feel like a big man.

The second report here (10/26/06) involves among other charges Battery and Intimidation of a Victim – Felony. In this incident Vanderleest told his wife he would KILL her if she testified against him at a previous domestic abuse case. When he found out she was going to testify, he responded by grabbing her by the hair again and throwing her to the ground. Ironically, this report states Vanderleest wanted his wife to see a psychic to see where their marriage was headed and she had. It would not take a psychic to predict where the relationship was headed.

Report three (8/10/09) here describes Vanderleest again using his wife as a punching bag. This time he was just trying to wake her up in the morning. What a sweet guy! Responding to reports of a domestic complaint police officers encountered Vanderleest and his mother who both lied and tried to appear as though no problem existed. Upon further investigation Mrs. Vanderleest’s (David’s wife) told different account and was found to have bruises to her thigh and the huge lump on her head!

Report four (also dated 8/10/09) here followed the release of David Vanderleest from jail. He had been given verbal and written instruction to stay away from his wife and to have no contact or indirect contact with her. Yet on his way home from jail, he defied those instructions sending his driver (who is campaign treasurer) into this wife’s home. Fortunately the police were on scene. Upon further investigation police spotted Vanderleest and apprehended him for violating the terms of his release Vanderleest and for bail jumping. Even the guard at the Brown County Jail acknowledged that she knew he would be back soon from his reaction to the instructions to stay away from his wife.

Is David VanderLeest’s state senate campaign really just some sort of sick joke?

What IS going on with the Republicans in that state, anyway?

4. I love lines like this, (from an extended story):
"The Republicans have proven over and over again they do not care who represents their party. They continue to scrape the bottom of the scum pond with both state and national offerings."

9. Doesn't matter. Republicans are above the law

Heck, if Laura Bush could run over her ex-boyfriend and get away with it, who thinks VanderLeest will be held accountable for any of these minor matters.

All he has to do is go to church on Sunday and ask Jesus to forgive him, do the Jimmy Swaggart thing with lots of tears, and he'll be let off the hook.

10. Well, it gets the story out again, link herein to abuse reports
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 07:58 AM by HereSince1628
I get how this is an effort to taint Walker with some of the tar-baby that is VanderLeest. Being able to claim during next year's gubernatorial recall that Walker supported a child abuser for WI Senate is as attractive as a cherry-half from a can of fruit cocktail.

Link to the abuse reports here:

I continue to wonder why the conservatives couldn't cough up a less flawed candidate than VanderLeest. Was their recall effort against Hansen really serious or just a way to harass Hansen? Because if you are into harassment, VanderLeest's history suggests he is a go to guy.

15. Well, at the national level, they let some real pinheads
run, Think of Oconnall==I have already forgotten her name--out East. But, it is a mystery why VanderLeest was not vetted. Maybe he was but they ran him anyway. But recall that Nygen --another Republican already in the assembly was running also. Maybe the Repugs just thought he would get the sigs (but he few short).

11. As a Vice Chairman of the Brown County Republican Party....
David VanderLeest is following in the "truely republican" tradition of former Brown County Republican Party Chairman, Donald Fleischman.

12. I wish they'd let him run and we could run ads
destroying him. I'm afraid if Walker disallows him they'll just put in John Nygren, who was their choice anyway, but goofed up his signature collecting.
