Bush making stop on Earth Day (in Maine to discuss environment)
WASHINGTON — President Bush will travel to Maine for Earth Day on Thursday to talk about the environment, an important topic in a state considered competitive in this year's election. Bush will squeeze the lunchtime speech in Wells between other events in Washington that day, according to a White House spokesman who declined to say what the president would speak about or why Maine was chosen.

He said the president would visit the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm, a former farm now a center for study of local ecosystems.

A spokeswoman for the Bush campaign in Maine declined comment on the trip because it is considered an official visit, rather than a campaign event.

Environmentalists, who have been at odds with the president since the outset of his administration, say an Earth Day appearance does not excuse his record.

Even our GOP Senators are at odds with this guy over environmental issues. How dare he tout his policies!

1. Question

Why do Mainers elect Republicans like Snowe and Collins? On top of that, the two Senators disagree with Bush on almost every single environmental issue. Perhaps he is trying to steal or use some of their credibility.

2. I'm baffled
Collins' reelection in 2002 was a big disappointment and a surprise, actually. Her opponent was terrific and should have won easily.

Tom Allen, the first district Congressman (our Congressmen are both Dems) will probably challege Snowe in the next election. The GOP here are already looking for someone to challenge her in the primary.

5. shameless
only the totally braindead could see this as anything but a farce. Even the hunting community is turning against him. If Teddy R were alive today he'd kick bu$h's ass from now to now.

10. Actually, the water is cold yet
Besides, I think junior and poppy really only like fishing for the photo op appeal to their base. Who knows what junior really likes to do with his free time, I can only guess but I'd say if it has anything to do with casting lines it's more likely to deal with white powder.
Bar is more likely the fisher in the family, she likes the free meat.
