1. This says so much about Mass Media Failures to Abide by the Rules
inflaming the susceptible to acts of madness.

3. Oh, because one person rammed a car?
I'm no fan of media sensationalism, especially the behavior surrounding the Casey Anthony verdict, but I think you're wide of the mark here.

Those people who paid attention to the case and got incensed over it will for the most part only confine themselves to yammering about it. That's it.

This woman, on the other hand, seemed to be a weird case.

http://www.news9.com/story/15084225/woman-mistaken-for-casey-anthony-attacked

Police say Nalley seemed to be on drugs when they arrested her. She's in the Mayes County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Besides, this is only one news story. Sometimes the next report, if there even is one, has a whole new set of details which change the content of the report.

6. What makes her a "weird case"

Is she a "weird case" because of how unusual and rare it is for police to say that someon was on drugs?

9. Ramming someones car because you thought it was a person you had seen on TV makes it weird
normal people don't do that.

And I'm inclined to believe the drugs story given her actions.

5. so true... I'm sure Nancy Grace will feign outrage over this
...or maybe she feels her job is done and all the loonies have been let loose.

If that woman had died and her child was robbed of her mother, what kind of screed would Grace have vomited over the airwaves about an innocent life being taken because of the media hysteria over that verdict?

2. Ladies & Gentlemen
Exhibit "A" in the potential dangers of mob justice. We may not like a jury's verdict but we must respect it and move on. Shame on the corporate media personalities whom apparently succeeded in working up some unstable individuals into a rage over the verdict.

11. She would have had a lawyer without Nancy's National Lynching Crusade
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 08:51 AM by whathehell
even, quite possibly, a pro bono lawyer,

since the case was "high profile" in Florida alone

There's no reason to assume she "would have

just pleaded", although that clearly would

have pleased you.

13. Got my daily dose of worthless sarcasm, creative punctuation and had

some words stuffed into my mouth.

The media wanted this trial. They paid for her side and her private lawyers out-gunned the local government lawyers. Nancy Grace helped created the injustice which she snorts against. The media was like an arsonist fireman.

Sensible people who have killed their own children and face the possibility of walking into a court room to face the death penalty with only the worst lawyer to defend them would plead to a lesser non-death penalty charge.

edit for typo

19. Yes, I feel similarly, although I'd add "creative grammar" from your end to the list as well

"helped created the injustice"...Sorry but it's "helped create".

"Sensible people who have killed their own children and face the possibility of walking into a court room to face the death penalty with only the worst lawyer to defend them would plead to a lesser non-death penalty charge".

Let me address the two large, debatable assumptions you've made in the above statement:

A. You are assuming she killed her own child...The jury (and a number of others) didn't make that assumption.

2. You also assumed that her only option would be the "worst" lawyer, in your mind a public defender, for her defense.

I guess you missed the part where I told you she had a good chance of getting a pro bono lawyer sans national media.

Buh bye.:hi:

15. I definitely think that cow Nancy Grace shares some blame
I hate Nancy Grace...Life isn't some Charles Bronson flick where vigilante justice takes hold, and people go around killing when they don't like the decision in a verdict...

20. Yeah, but the fact that she's overweight,
or, in your terms a "cow":eyes:

has nothing to do with it.

She's had a whole team of "helpers", male and female, certainly

not all "attractive", to spew out the same biased bullshit as NG.

17. I was only 6 years old at the time so I don't remember,
did crazy shit like this happen after OJ was found not guilty? Or did people feel he was above such things because he was a celebrity?

27. No, it was not like this. The country was more evenly divided. Many people thought OJ was innocent.
It seemed like a significant number of Americans at the time felt that he might really be innocent. Even those who felt that he was guilty (like me) were annoyed with the prosecution and felt like they had really blown the case. There were serious problems with prosecution witnesses (Mark Fuhrman's history of racism, the LA Police Dept's history of racism and planting evidence), chain of evidence was all screwed up, etc. So I wasn't particularly surprised by the verdict. I remember kind of shrugging and feeling that I wasn't surprised, since the prosecution had done such a terrible job.

Also, although that trial was televised, the media were nothing like they are now in terms of constantly haranguing about the guilt of selected defendants. Yes, Dominick Dunne was convinced of OJ's guilt and furious with the verdict, but Dominick Dunne was nothing like Nancy Grace. Meanwhile, Greta van Susteren (who got her start on TV commenting on the OJ trial and the Michael Kennedy Smith rape trial) was perfectly happy to go with "LA has spoken! OJ is innocent!" flow. The media was more divided after the OJ verdict.

I can't remember any trial where the media was so relentlessly against a defendant from the very beginning and kept up a 24/7 drumbeat for vengeance that went on for years. Maybe the Susan Smith case, but she confessed.

Moms accused of killing their babies do not get good press. That's been true for thousands of years.

22. HLN was running a chyron under its program counting down the minutes to CA's
release.

I find that to be irresponsible and could cause a riot.

In my opinion Nancy Grace has no qualms about ginning up violence for her own ratings.

That is just my opinion.

I don't think anything positive will come out of this and CNN should be ashamed of themselves.
