House Plans Vote on $2.4 Trillion Debt Increase, Members Say
Source: Bloomberg

The U.S. House plans a vote next week on a measure that would raise the government’s debt limit by $2.4 trillion, cut spending, cap government expenditures and propose a balanced-budget constitutional amendment, Republican lawmakers Sean Duffy and Billy Long said.

Duffy, of Wisconsin, and Long, of Missouri, described discussions in a closed-door meeting of House Republicans on Capitol Hill.

President Barack Obama and bipartisan congressional leaders have been meeting daily to search for a compromise that would cut the deficit and let the government sell debt after its borrowing authority is exhausted on Aug. 2.

5. Yep, any sane amendment proposal would have to include so many exceptions
as to be worthless, just like Rethugs are worthless.

7. That's the point. This is a political out that will probably work.
It's the ultimate example of legislation that mixes a poison pill with a sweetner. It combines a raise in the debt limit with a balanced budget amandment. If passed, the debt limit increase would take effect immediately, but the balanced budget amendment would have to be sent to the states for ratification, where it would fail.

Most of the Democrats will vote for it because of the debt limit increase, and so will the half of the Republicans that are still secretly SANE, but are afraid to admit it in public. Some of the Republicans will vote for it because of the balanced budget amendment and actually believe it, and some of them will vote for it because of the debt limit increase but CLAIM they voted for it because of the amendment. Either way, it gets passed. Then we get a sane debt limit, and the Republicans get to go home and save face by claiming victory on the balanced budget amendment which they know will ultimately fail at the state level.

3. Duffy had a lot of support from the Tea Party early in his campaign
last year. Now he is distancing himself from them but his brain thinks like one-and he acts like one. BTW, Duffy replaced Dave Obey when he retired. Now the repugs in WI are redrawing the map to protect him. They are taking out Chippewa Falls WI which tends to vote Dem and giving him another district that votes Repug.

6. So, what are they doing with the Dem voting piece of real estate--combining it with a district
that always votes Dem anyway?

Seriously, why do they hate America so damned much?

They have plenty of jingoism and nationalism, but those things dumbass or dangerous, or both. Love of America is love of the Constitution and love of the ideals of America, like fairness and justice.

Sorry, but I have no use for them or their America-hating ways.

8. Mo money, mo money!
Wait till the banksters siphon off their cut.. we'll be revisiting the debt limit shortly. Oh the madness, we keep doing the same thing over and over and over again while expecting different results.
