They organized a protest at Rep. Raul Grijalva's Tucson office Thursday. Inside the congressional office, protester Martha Wicklund told a staff member, "Raul Grijalva does represent me in this district. And I don't agree with his stand. I don't agree with the progressive belief."
Grijalva says his plan is the Congressional Progressive Caucus' "The People's Budget." "Our budget balances by the year 2021, no other budget does that, does it in 10 years. And it creates a surplus. And we don't touch the programs that people care about: education. We create a jobs program to put the people to work. We strengthen social security and medicare," Grijalva said.
Grijalva is defiant. He accuses some groups, including the Tea Party, of using the economic downtown to go after programs they never liked. "No amount of hysterics that they do at my office is going to convince me that I have to vote to cut Social Security and Medicare in order to satisfy their political agenda," Grijalva said.
Americans for Prosperity's Hoelscher estimates that about 50 people dropped by during the hour-long demonstration.Read more:
