Morning Iraq Briefing interrupted-Kimmitt removed !
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 08:30 AM by doxieone
Looked like he was going faint - leaned against the podium. He was able to walk away (with some assistance).

Female voice could be heard, "He needs to be removed. This is embarrassing."

19. That other guy
Dan senor with his ever repeating story that till 30 June things are getting more and more violent because of desperate men who hate freedom. He never says after 30 June it 'll be all peaceful but he suggests it in a sneaky sort of way.

17. They're showing it on CNN now
it looks like he came close to passing out. They said he had left the podium once already due to feeling ill. He had asked that the next question be the last, but then he slumped forward before answering and bonked his face on the microphone. He looked disoriented, but he walked out on his own.

When he came back he seemed fine.

20. Who said it??
Is she part of the coalition authority? I would like to know. A top general is slumping over onstage and all she is worried about is that it looks embarrassing? I think there are some more important issues at stake here than whether she is embarrassed. Is this the mindset of the people running the show over there?

39. Seizure?
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 10:59 AM by Peachhead22
Not a grand mal, but perhaps something like a petit mal or clonic seizure. It's been about a decade since I've seen one so maybe I'm way off base. Or (and I hope I'm wrong about this) a mini-stroke.

The look on his face during the episode and shortly after was troubling. Not really a "I've gotta barf", or "I'm really tired" look. He didn't appear to be fully concious for a minute there.

And that woman who complained about it "being embarrassing" needs to lose her job and security clearance immediately. What a friggin superficial idiot!

42. I doubt it's a seizure
My partner had a seizure disorder when he was younger, but has not had any seizures in the last five years. He has tried to get into the military, and they refuse to let him because of his past with seizures, even though he doesn't get them anymore.

If the military knew about Kimmet having a seizure disorder, I doubt he would be allowed to stay on, unless of of course, his seizures are a very recent development.

I admit, I missed seeing this on CNN, but from the descriptions, maybe it was hypoglycemia or complications from diabetes?

45. I didn't mean a seizure disorder
A seizure can be a one time thing or something that comes on later in life. A person doesn't necessarily have to have a history.

My mom had a grand mal once when she was in her 30s. She hadn't had one before that and none since (about 30 years).

29. interesting guess
it wouldn't have to be DU; there's literally tons of missing radioactive material from nuclear installations left unguarded in Iraq. With all the bombardment going on, some of it might have gotten airborne and inhalable. Measurements HAVE been taken and airborn radioactivity around installation is magnitudes above normal. Also, villagers were using looted slag barrels to carry water. (I wonder where Halliburton gets their perishables?)

I truly believe there should be an alarm raised about radiation exposure in Iraq.

43. He looked really ashen. Pale, tired.
My guess is that he has forgotten when he ate last and hasn't slept in awhile, and he ended up with low blood sugar. Maybe a stomach virus is taking hold.

There's nothing embarassing, IMO, about being ill unless someone has had specific instructions about taking care of themselves and they ignore it. People push themselves beyond the limit all the time, but usually only for the first time, and then hopefully they learn that there are limits.

I just wonder if any of the troops are "fainting" into their bunkers from being pushed to the limit, and if they are going to get any press or comfort from it. I wonder if a doctor is going to drop in and tell them to get some sleep and eat a nutritious meal and take better care of themselves. My best guess is "Hardly".

Shock, concern, rushing the stage, panic, etc.

This reaction is more like "He's doing it AGAIN.." or something. Kind of sounds like the reaction children/family members of alcoholics have after having witnessed a publicly drunk family member make an ass of themselves for the millionth time.

Probably because that's what it was.
