U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson's war chest continues to grow.

The Nebraska Democrat raised nearly $910,000 in the second quarter, ending the period with $2.9 million in the bank, according to figures his campaign released Thursday.

Friday is the deadline for federal candidates to file their financial reports.

Nelson still must make a final decision on whether to run. He has said he is leaning toward a bid for a third term.

1. Isn't this the jerk that had to be bribed to vote for health care?
C'mon Nebraska, you can do better. Send a real Democrat to Washington.

4. Who?
I can't stand the guy, but I'm waiting to hear some suggestions as to the name of a person who can beat Nelson in a primary and then go on to win in the general.

2. He's gonna need every dime of that money if he expects to get re-elected
Though I think he's gonna be gone come 2013.

3. Yes and some wonderful rethug will replace him. I worked politics
in Nebraska in the McGovern campaign and believe me - we are lucky that they sent us a Democrat at all. At the very least he helps us have a majority so we can control the committees. Not much else though.

5. Well if he wins in 2012 and makes it his last term
maybe he will vote as a real Dem and not worry about reelection. I would hope that Neb would have another choice for Dems they will need one sooner or later.

7. I don't disagree
I just think it's highly unlikely he'll get re-elected
Which is weird, since 4 years ago he had that highest positives of any Senator within their homestate/
Now he is near the bottom

6. He will need it if he votes to cut Social Security and Medicare.
Republican and Independent voters don't realize what this means.

8. I suspect he will vote with us on that one - his state has a high percentage
of elderly.
