Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution

KABUL, Afghanistan — A police official says gunmen have attacked the home of an adviser to the Afghan president in the capital but had no immediate reports of casualties.

Ashmat Stanekzai, a spokesman for the Kabul police chief, says an unknown number of gunmen on Sunday attacked the home of Jan Mohammed Khan, a former governor of Uruzgan province and adviser to President Hamid Karzai. There were no immediate reports of casualties, but Stanekzai says a gunbattle is taking place in the western Kabul district of Karti Char. Karzai has dozens of advisers and it was unclear what precise role Khan has.

If Jan Mohammed is dead this can be - I wld say - related to the killing of Ahmed Wali Karzai. They belonged to the elite 'ruling' the South

3. This, along with the Wali Karzai hit, practically insures the drawdown of troops is dead.
The entire cover-premise for the draw-down was stability. Now that premise is shot dead, we're stuck again...no US regime is going to draw-down without political cover.

My question is Did someone on this side of the Atlantic opposed to draw-down play a role in this? This sort of dirty pool is not out-of-bounds for certain "alphabet-soup" US intel agencies.

5. Karzai Adviser Is Killed at Kabul Home
Source: The New York Times

KABUL, Afghanistan — A close adviser to President Hamid Karzai who had been a fierce foe of the Taliban in Afghanistan’s south was killed Sunday night after a small team of gunmen stormed his walled home here in the capital.

The slain aide, Jan Mohammed Khan, was a former governor of the southern Oruzgan Province who had been one of Mr. Karzai’s trusted allies and a regular presence inside the presidential palace. He was killed alongside a member of Parliament from Oruzgan, Mohammed Hosham Watanwal.

The men’s deaths were confirmed by Gen. Mohammed Zahir, a police official in Kabul.

The killings marked another potentially heavy blow for Mr. Karzai, coming just days after his powerful half-brother was assassinated by a close associate in southern Afghanistan.

9. They've probably tried many times but were unsuccessful
Karsai's half brother was killed by a bodyguard I think. He may have just recently been recruited, or it may a revenge killing for something he did recently. There are any number of possibilities.
