Warren: Time For A Recess Appointment Or A Big Political Fight Over Consumer Bureau
Source: Talking Points Memo

On a conference call with reporters and bloggers Monday evening, Warren described the impasse Republicans have erected as an opportunity.

"We now have a nominee, and that actually frees us up a lot to have a big political discussion, or if need be fight," Warren said in response to a question from TPM. "A year ago we had a fight about whether to have this agency at all, and if we were going to have it whether to make it a strong, independent agency or a weak lame thing that wasn't going to get anything done. The Republicans, they lost that fight, and now they want to turn around and see if they can fight it again. They want to embrace the system that failed. And my view is we can now have that fight and we can have it in a full and vigorous way. We can have it at high volume."

I followed up to ask whether taking the fight public is a preferable option to Obama's recess appointment powers. She approved of that option, but cautioned that the agency's supporters would have to remain vigilant against continued GOP attempts to dismantle or weaken it.

"If we can get somebody in, I think that's great. It's good for the agency. The agency's then able to then pick up the rest of its tools and that's a win," Warren said. "There are still very powerful Republican Senators who believe they can take the position that crippling this agency is good for Americas consumers. So the fight will not be over."

1. Quote of the day, from Warren:
At the very end of the article linked in the OP...

"I'm saving all the rocks in my pocket for the Republicans," she said.

She rocks.

3. She does rock and it sounds like she...
Is behind Obama 100% unlike many here on DU try to make it out to be. She said she did not want the appointment & it is obvious she is behind the President. It sure would be nice to folks here on DU blaming the Obama for passing her up at least acknowledge the facts. I will not hold my breath.

2. There is some talk of Warren running for the Senate seat that...
Scott Brown is currently holding. If that is the case, I'm pretty sure she would beat Brown and that is a plus for MA and the Senate.

She is widely respected here in MA and I can't see Brown winning as the D's would be seriously motivated. While I think Warren would be excellent in her current position, I look for the future as well, and 6 years w/her as a Senator would be fantastic.

7. Should know pretty soon...
She's remarkably popular up here.

A pillar of integrity and should do extremely well. I figure she'd stomp Brown into the ground.

I honestly hope she runs.

6. GOP position: "Dismantling consumer protection is good for consumers."
Eh... what?

That's kinda the response to so many of the Republicans' positions on things: Eh... what?

12. I Would Rather She Run Against Scott Brown If She Can Realistically Win
Massachusetts is still heavily Democratic. It would be a tough race, because Scott Brown will have a boat load of money, but I think she would be a wonderful Senator.
