BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota's Senate Republican majority leader has been killed in a one-vehicle accident in Alaska.

Family members say Bob Stenehjem of Bismarck was returning from a halibut fishing trip near Homer, on Alaska's south coast. He was visiting his son and his older brother, who both live in Alaska.

Stenehjem's wife, Kathy, and his brother, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, said the accident happened just before 3 p.m. Bismarck time on Monday.

Bob Stenehjem was 59 years old. He'd been the Senate's Republican majority leader for a decade.

1. Wasn't there at least one other elected official who died in an accident in Alaska as well?

7. And also in that same plane was ...
Former US Representative Nick Begich of Alaska.

---
On October 16, 1972, he (Nick Begich) was aboard a twin engine Cessna 310 along with House Majority Leader Hale Boggs of Louisiana when the plane disappeared during a flight from Anchorage to Juneau. Also on board were Begich's aide, Russell Brown; and the pilot, Don Jonz. The four were heading to a campaign fundraiser for Begich.

4. A couple have died in plane crashes in Alaska

Former US Senator Ted Stevens was killed in Alaska in plane crash.

And current Alaska Senator Mark Begich's dad Nick Begich who was a former US Representative was killed in a small plane crash.

But I can't find anything about anyone previously killed in a 'car' crash.
