Syracuse Post StandardWashington -- U.S. Rep. Bill Owens became a national target of conservative Republicans on Monday as the House prepared to vote on a bill backed by tea party supporters to solve the debt-limit crisis.
Crossroads GPS, a Washington, D.C. group formed with the help of former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove, said it will spend $1.4 million in television ads over the next two weeks in 10 House districts occupied by Democrats.
The group said it will spend $141,511 on TV commercials in the Syracuse, Watertown and Burlington, Vt. (Plattsburgh) media markets that cover the 23rd Congressional District.
Such six-figure spending over a two-week period is unusual for a non-election year in Congress. The spending on the local TV commercials will top the entire quarterly fundraising totals of many House members.
