Hugh Grant wins court ruling in UK phone-hacking scandal

Police must disclose information to actor and former girlfriend Jemima Khan

A High Court judge on Wednesday ordered police to hand over information to actor Hugh Grant or former girlfriend Jemima Khan which could show phone messages between them were intercepted by a private investigator working for a newspaper.

The ruling by judge Geoffrey Vos followed a 20-minute hearing at the London court where neither Grant nor campaigner Khan were present, according to the Press Association.

The couple split in 2007 after a three-year relationship.

Grant has been a vociferous critic of News Corp since the phone-hacking scandal broke earlier this month, and is a member of the Hacked Off lobby group which has campaigned for a rigorous inquiry into illegal eavesdropping by newspapers.

2. Go get 'em Hugh
This is real bad news for Rupert and company because both Murdoch Sr. & Jr. along w/ Ms. Brooks all claim they
had no idea on how the private investigators were paid.

Nothing more dangerous than an offended rich and famous actor who doesn't give a shit about future roles or about what others think.

I can see him eventually going into politics and doing something righteous. I hope so.

5. What spiteful, petty nonsense.
We all know Hugh Grant was once arrested. Are you 12 that you bring that up now?

7. Many are but they still deserve privacy when it comes to their personal life
Grant has been an intelligent and well-spoken campaigner against Murdoch. Check out his piece in New Statesman.

9. And if anyone can bring down this den of thieves, it is someone famous.
Might as well use it to everyone's advantage.

14. And what attention do you believe he was seeking by filing suit?
Was it a good thing his phone messages were intercepted by Murdock's goons?

12. He made a mistake... owned up to it and has done nothing since to make me think....
that he deserves to have his past thrown in his face. As far as attention-seeking, he actually lives a pretty private life. Acting is just a job to him. One that happens to put him in the public eye and has led to an invasion of privacy by a powerful corporation. He is doing the right thing and fighting against those who sought to expose his life in a way that he did not, and does not, want it exposed. I understand being wary of celebrity but Hugh Grant is an actor who is equally wary of celebrity. He did not want his private life splashed across the pages of the dailies so I think you and he are actually like-minded in that regard.

15. This is what needs to be done
The neoliberals like Labor in Britain and the Democrats here are too chicken to charge them with anything so individuals must do it. It is the only way to save democracy in this country and others.
