James O'Keefe's Latest 'Terrorist' Medicaid Sting Goes After Woman For Following Law
Ryan J. Reilly | July 20, 2011, 6:00AM

Stop me if you've heard this one. A man goes into a public assistance office in Charleston, South Carolina in a kilt, tells them he's a member of the Irish Republican Army and asks for help for 25 fellow Irishmen in a hospital who need Medicaid.

A government employee follows the rules and explains the process for filling out a Medicaid paperwork and the qualifications they'd need to meet. She informs them that a federal law intended to protect patient privacy requires her not to divulge any information he's told her.

So what happens next? James O'Keefe's Project Veritas releases a deceptively edited video that makes the woman look like a terrorist sympathizer, though it isn't even clear if she knows the background of the IRA.

In the edited version, the woman says it would not be in her best interest to divulge anything because she could not afford it and she doesn't want to go to jail. As it turns out, that's what she's supposed to do under the law.

He can wear his kilt there.

His outfits are hysterical. Who falls for this shit?

The type of kilt he's wearing is a formal garment... like black tie or something. The kilt hose (socks) with the garters (the little ribbon thingies) are mostly for dancers.

49. Who falls for this shit, you ask?
Right-wing fuckbags. That's who.

We here at DU can see this is one of O'keefe's most fouled up stunts yet. But, no matter how obvious it is this particular stunt is more full of holes than anything else he's ever done, there's that bottom-feeding percentage of FoxNews/Freepers who'll believe only the edited version as presented and beat the drum of "see, Obama's government supports terrorists" bullshit.

I know we have the first amendment here. But, at what point do we get to judge this nonsense as so valueless and potentially harmful that there can be charges and fines?

And the MSM won't analyze this with due diligence because criticizing and exposing anything conservative gets them labeled by the right as the "liberal media". They're so afraid of the label, that they're not even exposing the truth any more and are even magnifying some of the more trivial transgressions by liberals and Democrats in order to appear more "equally weighted" in their lib v. con coverage.

We need an O'keefe on the left who will go out and punk conservatives. These bastards need to be called out.

Uh... yes they do. But mostly not a kilt made from a tartan. There are some Irish tartans, but mainly they wear kilts made from solid wool. I've seen them in a solid ochre color.

Ooo... here's a pic:

As I said before... he's dressed like a formal Scottish dancer! That expensive sporran is a hoot! "My sporran's bigger than yours!"

BTW... I'm a costume designer... of Scottish heritage. I made my own kilt outta my tartan (Hunter) and in researching how to do it traditionally, learned a thing or two.

Seal face? That's a grand there.

The Glengarry isn't Irish either.

I believe it's time for O'Keefe to gain a better understanding of Scotland's motto: Nemo me impune lacessit.

IMHO he's dressed business/evening but not quite formal (black tie), although the sporran screams black tie.

He may just be trying to point out that terrorists can request government help and government workers are not allowed to tell anyone what they know. Sounds like a problem to me. Are most terrorists really going to walk into some federal agency, tell them they're terrorists and then taunt them about not being able to tell anyone because it's the law? Somehow I doubt it.

25. Neat Trick
To his credit, O'Keefe posted the full unedited video of the "sting" directly after the edited version. Which makes it all the more curious that Project Veritas edited the tape in a way that paints the government employee in a bad light.

This way, he leaves it to his fanboys to spread the malicious video.

I don't think he's stupid; I think he enjoys his "work" and thinks he's clever because no matter how ridiculous his set-ups, there are morans who will believe he's proven something. It would be amusing if he weren't capable of doing so much damage but because he is, it's merely disgusting.

The volume is so poorly modulated during his narration that every time he pronounces a B or a P, it sounds like the microphone is in his mouth. There are such things as professional quality microphones with screens - you would think he could invest in one, given how much the outfit looks to have cost.

Don't be pussies. Never mind that 20% of Americans consider themselves Irish (at least in part) and most of them think the British were as bad in Ireland as slave owners were in the U.S. South making those who fought against the British occupation about the same as abolitionists like John Brown. You need to stand up for principles, GOP. Go on. Take aim with that shotgun and shoot yourselves in the foot. Pretty please.

Think of the praise you will win in Great Britain, from all those Big Pharm companies that are making out like bandits on Medicare Part D.

What will this guy's next stunt be? Will he go down the the Social Security office wearing a beret, claim that he was a member of the French Resistance in WWII who bombed German trains and now he wants to start collecting on his retirement?
