Euro officials report increased far-right chatter (BREAKING NEWS UPDATE)
Source: AP

By PAISLEY DODDS

LONDON (AP) - European security officials say they are aware of increased Internet chatter from individuals claiming they belonged to a group called the new Knights Templar, that has been allegedly linked to the suspect in Norway's deadly attacks.

Two European security officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the investigation, said they were still investigating claims that 32-year-old Norwegian suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, and other far-right individuals attended a London meeting of the group in 2002.

They would also not immediately confirm that Breivik had come on to their radar as a potential threat.

The English Defense League, which opposes what it calls the spread of Islam, released a statement Sunday distancing itself from Breivik.

2. I hope the Feds are paying attention over here.
The only thing that's keeping our heavily armed Right from carrying out similar attacks is a whim.

8. Our DHS warned of the threat of homegrown right-wing terrorism
But the right-wing noise machine & Repubicans went into overdrive to lambast it as "White House propaganda"

"A 2009 study warned that the rise of right-wing extremism could spur violent attacks. But the report was attacked by Republicans, including now-Speaker John Boehner."

3. Never a conspiracy of the Right; always a 'lone gunman'.
I find it difficult to believe, each and every time, the same bullshit story.

9. That's their story, and they are sticking to it
Crazy lone "Christian" = crazy lone gunman
Crazy lone Muslim = get scared! close the mosques! Jihad! Jihad! Jihad! We told you those muslins were out to git us!

There are indeed crazy lone gunmen or all stripes.

There are also partisan nuts inflamed by the hatred spewed by both the fundamentalist imams and fundamentalist Fox "News" types.

20. And, of course, the lone gunman is always considered just to be "insane."
This was the act of a very rational but hateful extremist.

Same type as Al Qaeda.

A right-wing terrorist is the same as a religious terrorist. Haven't heard about any terrorist acts by members of the left in quite a number of years.

Violence is generally incompatible with the philosophy of people on what is called the "left" today, so "leftist" movements don't attract violent types.

11. The new Facism: a Worldwide problem?
Is the threat of pseudo-Islamic terrorism the red herring for the real threat from the right, or is it an extension of the far-right fundamentalism of the jihad?

In this country we have the authoritarian TSA which has apparently has carte-blanch to violate our rights (I know, I know, freedom to travel is no longer a "right" - it's a "privilege"!!), the now blatant movement to erode or outright destroy successful social programs which were never as robust as those enjoyed by other industrialized countries, and the nascent "grass-roots" tea party which exists solely to put a blue-collar face on white-collar crimes.

Now we see a Norwegian christian fundy doing his part to restore white supremacy in the Nordics.

Are any of these really these extremists really that different from the Taliban? If push came to shove in the global quest for religious/ideological control, why wouldn't these admittedly diverse - but all-Zealot groups band together before they turn on each other for final control?

Perhaps this is an apocalyptic vision, but they are already succeeding in paralyzing their foes in fear. They also appear to have no formidable opposition.

In a few days or so, the Norwegian tragedy will be old news (except, of course in Norway). Thousands will silently pass through TSA to exercise their now-privilege to travel, and Republicans will most likely prevail in eroding the social safety net in the U.S.A.
Time marches on.

14. A rose by any other name.......
Make that - A wing by any other name would smell as right. I begin to hurl uncontrollably every time I think of all of the men and women who gave their lives during WWII so that this country would never have to have the likes of John's Boner and his wealthy (er....job creating) master race before us in Congress, pervading the decimation of the elderly, the poor and the disenfranchised from our American society. Why burn us in ovens when it is so much easier to just starve us to death?

23. The less informed of the right-wing will view Islamic terrorism as the main enemy...

but those who make money off the system understand that Islamic Terrorism has been an incredible cash cow. After all, $4 Trillion has been added to our national debt due to the War on Terror. Now, they want to fund this debt using SS and Medicare reserves. This is CRAZY, but it seems to be working out quite well for them.

19. While I cannot say this is correct it seems to me that the fact that
Norway's Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr had indicated that Norway was going to support a Palestinian state just days before the attack may have been the spark that ignited this group of haters to do this. I am assuming that Jonas Gahr is part of the Labor Party.

The extreme right-wing does not differentiate between Palestinians and Jews -- usually hates all others equally.

24. For the moment.
These movements go after one group and then the next -- because they want somebody to hate. They aren't angry about what people do, but about what people are. They talk about what people do, but it is not the deep cause for their hatred. The German people had been taught to despise Jews for hundreds of years. So that is why it was so natural for them to focus on Jews. But they took their hatred out on other groups just because the were "different."

25. I agree "for the moment". They really are not interested in Isreal but
how it fits into their own theology. If anything interferes with that then it is to be hated. What I see is that Norway by announcing that they are going to support the Palestinian state was interfering with their theology. Now what I am saying fits our rw churches over here and that may not be true of rw churches over there. That is why I said I was not sure.

29. I can't remember
who said it, but it was in reference to Christian Evangelical support for Israel. It basically says, "Yeah, the Evangelicals love the Jews. The only problem I got with it is that for the Evangelicals, it's a five-act play, and we (the Jews) disappear in the fourth act!"

I'm 100% sure it was a Jewish-American comedian, but for the life of me, I can't recall who. I do remember I laughed my butt off when I heard it, because it's a very accurate assessment.

28. That I agree with - I assume that he had it planned for the youth
convention. All I am saying is that they hate the Labor Party for what they do and one of the things they do is support the Palestinians. This idea did not originate with me. I read it in a Norwegian newspaper - and I do not have a link.
