6:06pm UK, Monday July 25, 2011 -

The man accused of killing at least 76 people in a shooting massacre and car bombing in Norway had been on an intelligence watch list since March, according to reports.

The Norwegian newspaper VG Nett claims Anders Behring Breivik had been put on the list after illegally buying large amount of chemicals online from a Polish retailer.

Sky's Ian Woods said the Norwegian intelligence service had not acted on the information about because they did not believe it was "relevant".

His father has been reported as saying his son should have committed suicide instead of surrendering to police.

1. His purchase was worth 22 USD. "Large amount" is really fucking pushing it.

But what can you expect from a Murdoch rag. Seems like they're deliberately trying to make the police and government look bad, like Fox News did when they almost made fun of the Norwegian government for caring more about climate change than security. This was the day after the attack.

The list consisted some 60 people who had bought items from this Polish internet store. They do not know what he bought from this internet shop, but will know soon, probably. It seems like the owner of the company has been arrested in Poland.

All in all i think the English-language media's reporting is really bad. Lots of details wrong, some seem deliberate.

2. Is VG Nett a Murdoch rag?
Genuine question as I'd never heard of it before but I do know he owns papers all over the world.

3. No but Sky is. They seem to leave out details, like the fact that his purchase was tiny.

Edit: Or hang on he didnt get to buy them did he? But sky is still very much a Fox News light in the UK.

Oh and by the way, The amount was 121NOK. 200NOK is the limit where you have to pay custom charges on items bought from abroad.

This kind of info leaving to surveillance of a person would not even happen in Stasi germany i think.

4. Depends on the chemical and what the price/kilo is.
A dangerous chemical doesn't necessarily have to be expensive.

5. True, but its a 22 dollar mail order.
And like the police say, there was no reason to suspect anything.

We'll find out what the substance was eventually i guess.

6. Possibly aluminum powder
The Polish company appears to be a source used by amateur pyrotechnics. It offers a long list of inexpensive inorganic compounds. What he ordered probably went into the detonator or was used to spike the ANFO mixture for greater effect.
