Administration launches new push on global crime
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 02:24 PM by RC

Associated Press
The Associated Press

The Obama administration is launching a new strategy to take on international criminal organizations, targeting crime factions in Mexico, Japan, Italy and Eastern Europe with a presidential executive order aimed at disrupting their financial operations.

The order signed by President Barack Obama takes steps against four crime organizations by blocking their property interests and authorizing financial sanctions against anyone aiding them. The groups include Los Zetas, a Mexican drug ring linked to multiple murders; the Yakuza, Japan's main underworld group; the Camorra, a crime network based in southern Italy; and the Brothers' Circle, an Eastern European criminal group operating worldwide.

The moves come as the administration is animating a long-scattered effort to confront global crime groups that transport drugs, weapons and enable terrorist groups.

Is this in addition to the war on terror? Or is the gearing up to replace the war on terror?

When are we going to start paying attention to our own crumbling infrastructure here, instead of the rest of the world?

Do we have any plans to take care of the criminals on Wall Street and the Banksters? Didn't think so.

1. What about the organized crime networks based in lower Manhattan? Why disrupt millionaire mobsters
when with a heck of a lot less shooting and bloodshed the feds could just show a warrant, walk into the boardrooms, and round up the billionaire organized crime overlords?

3. Dumb ass whack-a-mole bullshit wars on drugs and terror.
This is one of the major reasons we are so fucked right now.

So, let's escalate the phony wars and waste more money.

Makes no sense to me.

7. I have some information on war crimes and crimes against humanity
Is the Obama Justice Department interested? Because I think the perpetrators would be apprehended fairly easily.

12. President Obama is turning out to be a real hawk against crime organizations
And I see that he's using legal avenues to go after them. I think this is the way it should be done.

He's already showed his bona fides by ordering the killing of the Somali pirates and Bin Laden and criminal organizations know this. I'm sure there have been more we don't know about too. Those drones aren't just killing civilians in Pakistan and other parts of the mideast.

It's surprising that our government is just now doing this though. It shows Bush wasn't very interested in really stopping terrorists. He just wanted his wars for profit.

15. To me, this sounds like the typeof strategy that Senator Kerry was speaking of in 2004
Kerry's position was informed by his 5 year investigation of BCCI, which was used by both international drug rings and non state terrorist for money laundering. Kerry wrote a book, called "The New War"in 1997.

20. Wonder why Senator Kerry is never given more credit for that
especially from Obama supporters here? They have the same, if not similar foreign policy DNA.

16. Listen to you!
lunatica says: "Those drones aren't just killing civilians in Pakistan and other parts of the mideast."

Allowing your point hypothetically: would you consider this an acceptable crime fighting strategy in your town?

Imagine: "We didn't just kill civilians -- we got some bad guys too (we think)."

18. It was sarcasm, but I guess you need visual aids to get that
Here.

:sarcasm:

Does that clarify it a bit for you?

19. Sorry - and I'm one of those sarcastics too...
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 05:15 PM by JackRiddler
Certainly I refuse to use the visual aid, it's like a capitulation on language.

In this case, however, your sarcastic comment was indistinguishable from the justifications we do occassionally here, you must admit.

Be well.

17. Sure would be nice if the DOJ would pay attention to
Crimes committed in this country!
Torture, Wall Street, the Bushies, etc could do with a little light shined on them.
