I70 shut down west of Topeka - possible bomb
Source: WIBW (Topeka)

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- KDOT and KHP confirmed Monday after 1:30 p.m. that I-70 west of Topeka to K-99 was shutdown at the request of law enforcement.

Just before 3 Monday Chief Tim Brown of Junction City released the following information:

On July 25th, 2011, at about 10:32 hours, the Junction City/Geary County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a man using a cell phone that advised that a hazardous material had been placed in Room #123 of the Ramada Inn in Junction City. The Caller advised the material had been placed there intentionally and that the FBI was to be contacted.

1. More coverage: (Looks like Norway copycat)
The Kansas Department of Transportation has shutdown Interstate 70 in both directions from Auburn Road west of Topeka to K-99 in Wabaunsee County.

The road has been closed for two hours and law enforcement officials have been very tight-lipped about what led to the closure.

According to WIBW, the closure relates to a bomb threat phoned in regarding a Junction City motel. According to KTKA, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers located a suspect in the threat, driving eastbound on I-70, west of Topeka.

They arrested the man but have pulled back from the truck, which appears to be covered in anti-government sayings, while a bomb squad comes in and investigates. KMBC has live video of the scene from their helicopter.

2. Another right-wing terrorist!
Maybe the feds should concentrate less on medicinal-marijuana clinics and start cracking down on these right-wing terrorists!

Twice dipped in twice the shit. ;-)

But Junction City is where U.S. Army personnel and their families would be likely victims. And of course, it's on a major east-west highway.

9. And near Fort Riley.
To do something in Junction City, U.S. Army personnel, or their families, must be the target.

12. Absolutely! It's been a government military town for ages. Ft. Riley Wiki:
Fort Riley is a United States Army installation located in Northeast Kansas, on the Kansas River, between Junction City and Manhattan. The Fort Riley Military Reservation covers 100,656 acres (407 km²) in Geary and Riley counties and includes two census-designated places: Fort Riley North and Fort Riley-Camp Whitside. The fort has a daytime population of nearly 25,000. The zip code is 66442.

Fort Riley is named in honor of Major General Bennett C. Riley who led the first military escort along the Santa Fe Trail. The fort was established in 1853 as a military post to protect the movement of people and trade over the Oregon, California, and Santa Fe trails. In the years after the Civil War, Fort Riley served as a major United States Cavalry post and school for cavalry tactics and practice. The post was a base for skirmishes with Native Americans after the Civil War ended in 1865, during which time George Custer was stationed at the fort.

Later, Fort Riley became the site of the United States Cavalry School in 1887. The famous all-black 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments, the soldiers of which were called "Buffalo Soldiers", were stationed at Fort Riley at various times in the 19th and early 20th centuries. During World War I, the fort was home to 50,000 soldiers, and it is sometimes identified as ground zero for the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, which its soldiers were said to have spread all over the world. Since the end of World War II, various infantry divisions have been assigned there. Most notably, the post was home to the famed Big Red One from 1955-1996. Between 1999 and 2006, the post was headquarters to the 24th Infantry Division and known as "America's Warfighting Center". In August 2006, the Big Red One relocated its headquarters to Fort Riley from Leighton Barracks, Germany.

13. More info plus a picture:

The Kansas Highway Patrol has shut down Interstate 70 in both directions west of Topeka to investigate a suspicious vehicle on Monday afternoon.

The Kansas Department of Transportation said that law enforcement requested that the highway be closed from Auburn Road in Shawnee County to Kansas 99 in Wabaunsee County to investigate. KDOT spokeswoman Kim Qualls said the shutdown would be in effect at least until late Monday evening.

Traffic is being diverted to U.S. 24 and then to Kansas 99.

The pickup truck has writing on the hood and both sides of the vehicle, including references that the owner's "emergency contact information is the Federal Bureau of Investigation." Several containers were packed into the bed of the pickup truck.

The vehicle was connected with an incident in Junction City earlier in the day.
