Tea Party Protest the NAACP in Los Angeles - Little Talk about Fiscal Issues
Source: IREHR

Almost 100 Tea Partiers and anti-immigrant activists mounted a small and sometime languid protest of the NAACP, at the venerable civil rights organization’s 102nd national convention in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 24. ... The topic of the day was the NAACP, how it might once have had a “noble” purpose, but its failure to stop violence by black mobs and Latino gangs rendered it just another cog in the Obama liberal-socialist-communist machine.

The speeches attracted a couple of avid supporters of President Obama, who were passing by, stopped to have their say from the sidelines and resumed their walk down the street. A couple of television news trucks pulled up. Some noticeable old hands from the anti-immigrant universe were there.

One of the speakers was Barbara Coe, founder of the so-called California Coalition for Immigration Reform. Well known in California because of her role in starting the Proposition 187 debacle in 1994, Coe’s membership in the Council of Conservative Citizens puts her on the white nationalist side of the anti-immigrant movement.

Jesse Lee Peterson, apparently the prime mover of the Tea Party protest, has a twenty-year history on the far right side of the street. He long ago supported Prop 187, Arizona’s draconian SB 1070, and similar anti-immigrant measures. He reportedly was on the board of Christian Coalition, and served on the board of directors of the Booker T. Washington Society along with J.A. Parker, formerly a registered agent of the apartheid regime in the Republic of South Africa. Making apologias for racism and white supremacy are his trademark response to all issues. And this Tea Party protest was no exception.

The whole basis of this protest is psychotic where it isn't insulting.

These people are complaining that the NAACP isn't controlling criminals? So, the proposition here is that psychopaths leading criminal gangs can be swayed by the NAACP, but the NAACP just doesn't want to sway them. This is like saying the Knights of Columbus haven't done enough to curb the Hell's Angels, or the Irish and Italian Mobs. You might as well say white people didn't do enough to save Amy Winehouse.

Let's mention inappropriate? Here the government federal government is about to implode over the debt negotiations, people are suffering widespread poverty, and can't meet basic needs in this social-political environment, and all these Teabaggers can do is resort to misplaced, illogical racial blame. Good to know they've finally found an issue they can all agree on, and it's as ugly as everyone anticipated.

*And I said all that without mentioning the word racism. But I put it in this footnote, because it is racism. Nice of them to praise the NAACP then, when "then" no longer nettles Teabaggers. It's not that they would have been all for the NAACP then. They've just gotten over it.

It's makes just about as much sense. Just how do they propose the NAACP stop gang violence?

14. Good point. The NAACP is basically a group of lawyers
and their whole strategy, from the get-go, was about gradually dismantling Jim Crow through court challenges. What do these idiots want them to do...get an injunction against the Crips?

the purpose of the NAACP is to stop the violence of non whites. I have to wonder who do they think should stop the violence of whites.

11. There's a LOT the NAACP has failed to accomplish in this nation,
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 04:42 PM by JAnthony
they failed to stop the drought and heat wave in Texas.

They failed to stop the dust storms in AZ

They failed to convert all Muslims to Christians, too!

They failed to make snow go away in northern states in winter, too!

:nopity: :sarcasm:

Let's see, what have the Tea Baggers failed to do?

EVERYTHING!

15. STFU about the NAACP already, Tea Party,
especially after a TP leader mocked the NAACP in bigoted language. And I have yet to hear an explanation about that American icon of the TP, Ronald Reagan, talking about states' rights in that Mississippi city where three civil rights activists were brutally murdered in 1964, and of course states' rights had that hidden message appeal. (Why does Thom Hartmann still debate the author of the NAACP letter Mark Williams?)

I'm so disgusted to be white.

These fools are just disgraceful.

p.s.,

"Coe’s membership in the Council of Conservative Citizens puts her on the white nationalist side of the anti-immigrant movement."

The CCC? Shouldn't that be the KKK?

19. Anybody know which RW airbag encouraged 'em to go there? Why aren't they at work, huh?
Got nothing to do but go and harass people that have nothing to do with their own personal lives. Wonder if this traveling fascist circus is the one that attacked the old people in the park in Oregon?
