Ohio tea party activists rally for US speaker (Boehner)
Source: Dayton Daily News

Tea party activists in U.S. House Speaker John Boehner's home area of southwest Ohio rallied Monday to offer him encouragement amid the debt crisis negotiations. A couple of hundred supporters, some waving signs such as "Hold firm, John" and "Honk to cut spending," gathered at a suburban strip mall next to the Republican's district office in West Chester Township.

They said they wanted to show support for Boehner's tough position in the showdown in Washington, where congressional leaders are working to find agreement on a deficit reduction plan with an Aug. 2 default deadline looming.

Boehner walked out on debt talks with President Barack Obama on Friday and offered a new House Republican proposal Monday. The legislation would provide a two-step approach to raising the debt limit, but Obama wants legislation that will raise the nation's debt limit by at least $2.4 trillion in one vote, enough to avoid a rerun next year in the middle of the election campaign.

Near the end of the rally, the crowd shouted in unison, "Stay strong, John!" Cincinnati tea party leader Mike Wilson said he and others want Boehner to stand firm and to make sure there are significant federal spending cuts.

That's a key question. Paid 'ralliers' have the integrity of a pack of scabs.

5. The Tea Party doesn't want a budget deal,
They don't care if we can't pay our bills,
They want just two things destroy the social safety net and make President Obama a 1 term president. Not in that order.

7. I've been to his home district
There's a huge amount of flat-earth society, mouth-breathing, chew-spitting, cross-eyed freaks in that area. Not saying much to his "base."

And I think that Boner should shut up, pass the extension, then pass a budget that incrementally moves towards being balanced.

Like Bill Clinton did back in the 1990's. It just took Dubya and my fellow Republicans in congress one year to totally blow the balanced budget Bush was handed.

To just try to cut all the social programs in one fell swoop is not only irresponsible, it is a slap in the face to all the seniors that played by the rules and paid into social security and medicare for decades. It is a slap in the face to me after I paid into social security and medicare all these years.

We didn't get into this pickle overnight, and we aren't getting out of it without a decade of hard work to just balance the budget. Once we are there, then we can look at what needs done to pay down the debt.

14. People like you make me think
This is the last headline Boehner wants to see - especially in national papers. I am pretty sure there are many more republicans like you than there are tea partiers. I guess they're is good for something if more sensible republicans surface. I'm a Democrat but I do appreciate the Maine sisters and Lisa M from Alaska these days.

16. It's a shame the tea partiers are so dim witted they don't realize
the debt ceiling needs to be raised because Boehner spend money like a drunken sailor during the Bush years.

17. So, can we assume that the Koch brothers are supporting Boehner and does that explain Cantor's
sudden, recent about fact in supporting Boehner?
