Senior Indian and Pakistani officials have held discussions in New Delhi, India's capital, that will lay the groundwork for formal peace talks set for Wednesday.

The upcoming meeting between the foreign ministers of the neighbouring South Asian countries is expected to focus on confidence-building measures, trade and people-to-people exchanges.

Salman Bashir, Pakistan's foreign secretary, said on Tuesday that he hopes the dialogue will boost ties between the two countries.

"We have every reason to be satisfied with our joint endeavours for the cause of peace and stability and for good relations between our two countries," he said.

1. Can't help being skeptical...
All this seems to be some kind of showmanship. They'll always keep the level of enmity high enough to justify the spending on Armed Forces and the industrial base it supports.

2. Forge peace =
Get the same or bigger piece of America's jobs, information databases, phony capital notes known as dollars, hard resources such as American infrastructure and natural resources to include highways, bridges, forests, minerals, oil(?), but most important - munitions with which to continue to create fearful diversions of possessive control of same "just in time."

skeptical indeed.

3. Pakistan will never have peace with India.
Pakistan was formed as a Muslim country under the "Two Nation" theory and peace in the minds of the zealots means Islam lost to "Hindus" (even though India is secular) because India has advanced exponentially as compared to Pakistan as the latter remains an economically non-viable entity, depending upon foreign aid in perpetuity.

Pakistan is only playing a game to appease the American paymasters; especially in light of the latest terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

In a milestone meeting on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan pledged to jointly increase and improve bilateral relations.

The two-and-a-half hour meeting, which was the first meeting between the two nuclear rivals since peace talks resumed this year following a 2008 bombing of Mumbai by Pakistani militants, proved to be a successful starting point for the two historically opposed nations.

Following the meeting, India's youngest ever and first female Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar said, "This is indeed a new era of bilateral cooperation between the two countries."

=snip=

... in a turn of events, the two leaders came together and agreed to work in cooperation to fight terrorism, boost bilateral trade, and increase tourism between the two countries.
