While sex after 70 used to be taboo, a new Swedish study reveals that nearly 100 percent of today's seniors would be sexually active if they could, Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet reports.

"In the 60s, women sought psychiatric care if they still experienced sexual desire after the menopause. Today's attitude is different," Nils Beckman, a Gothenburg University researcher and the author of the study, told the paper.

In all, Beckman polled 1,658 70-year-olds over the past 40 years for his study, which will be presented at an international science festival in the southern city of Gothenburg next month.

While only 0.8 percent of 70-year-old women polled in 1971 said they were sexually active, 13 percent of women in the same age group polled in recent years said they were still having sex.

Many more 70-year-old women are also married or living with someone today than was the case 30 years ago, according to the study.

4. A while back there was this special on our PBS station

dealing with erectile dysfunction...There were two older men and one young man (victim of accident)... what I thought was funny was the case of this 70+ year old man having an implant... and his wife was using a walker... this is particularly true for women of age and a huge problem for them. It's funny and absurd somehow, 'cause it doesn't fit into our society at all. We rather like to watch the tits of 16 year old plastic women after surgery - o.k. when it comes to this, the USA might be a lot more pervert and bigot than Europe - who swear that they don't want to have sex before they are married like Britney Spears. when the human body grows older, it generally desires sex less and less. It's the way our bodies are designed, that when the point is past to be able to reproduce, the desire goes away. Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule.

As a 62 yo with a 66 yo partner I can say that my sex life is as good or better than when I was in my 20's. (Premarital) sex back then was still fraught with ego games and hangups. But we have only been together for 4 years now so things are still rather fresh.

Many couples have less sex as they age together because of the familiarity. The drive can be ignored and eventually forgotten perhaps but there's no reason to quit unless you want to.

What could be more natural or beautiful than any two (consenting) humans making love? If the idea of older people having sex disgusts you then I suggest you have some hangups.

Perhaps you have that fear of aging that many young people have. Having gone through it myself I'd suggest to you that aging is far better than the alternative. Keep your mind open and you'll be amazed at how much fun you can have as you age.
