For the second time in three days -- but apparently for a different reason this time -- authorities have closed the same 25-mile stretch of Interstate 70 just west of Topeka.

A situation regarding a barricaded person prompted the Kansas Highway Patrol as of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to close all lanes of eastbound and westbound I-70 between S.W. Auburn Road in western Shawnee County and K-99 highway in Wabaunsee County.

Highway Patrol Lt. Scott Harrington said the closure was caused by a situation involving a person barricaded in a vehicle after a traffic stop on westbound I-70 near mile marker 339. That is about 15 miles west of Topeka.

5. Again?
Yesterday it was some anti-government loony in a pick-up truck who claimed to have stashed explosives in a Junction City hotel room. Today it's some wacko who barricaded himself in an RV.

What's the matter in Kansas?

6. To be fair, yesterday's anti-government looney was indeed from Arkansas,
not Kansas.

10. Tapioca, I mean Topeka, doesn't seem as bland as usual.
Well just remember: Topeka's zip codes all start with 666. ;-)

Maybe they should renumber I70 and use the song "Get your kicks on Route 666."

13. Roads reopened, suspect in custody
http://www.wibw.com/localnews/headlines/126246473.html

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Kansas Department of Transportation closed a stretch of I-70 west of Topeka for more than 7 hours Wednesday after a subject barricaded himself inside an RV just across the Wabaunsee County line.

Paul Richard Berry, 45, of Canton, Michigan was taken into police custody around 3:30 p.m. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that their Special Response team immobilized his vehicle by flattening his tires. KHP reports they had to force their way into his vehicle and arrest Berry after he repeatedly refused to speak to the officers.

The subject fought back when arrested and received minor injures. Berry was taken to Stormont-Vail with non-life threatening injuries.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, eastbound I-70 has re-opened. Crews opened westbound I-70 15 minutes later after clearing vehicles.

(end snip)

OK, this one is from Michigan.
