Entire Senate Dem caucus vows to oppose Boehner debt plan
Edited on Wed Jul-27-11 06:36 PM by denem
Source: The Hill

Every single member of the Senate Democratic caucus signed a letter Wednesday declaring their opposition to legislation sponsored by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to raise the debt limit. ..

“We heard that in your caucus you said the Senate will support your bill. We are writing to tell you that we will not support it, and give you the reasons why,” the lawmakers wrote...

“A short-term extension like the one in your bill would put America at risk, along with every family and business in it,” Senate Democrats wrote. “Your approach would force us once again to face the threat of default in five or six short months."

“Every day, another expert warns us that your short-term approach could be nearly as disastrous as a default and would lead to a downgrade in our credit rating,”

1. Senate Democrats say they’re united against Boehner debt plan
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/2chambers/post/senate-democrats-say-theyre-united-against-boehner-debt-plan/2011/07/27/gIQARRXbdI_blog.html

The Senate Democratic caucus united Wednesday in opposition to the debt-ceiling plan drafted by House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio).

All 53 members of the Senate Democratic caucus – including 51 Democrats and two independents who caucus with Democrats, Sens. Joe Lieberman (Conn.) and Bernie Sanders (Vt.) – announced their opposition to the plan in a letter to Boehner.

“A short-term extension like the one in your bill would put America at risk, along with every family and business in it,” the senators write. “Your approach would force us once again to face the threat of default in five or six short months. Every day, another expert warns us that your short-term approach could be nearly as disastrous as a default and would lead to a downgrade in our credit rating.”

10. That's just an expression used to indicate how fast those months
will go by in the general scheme of things.

Republicans in a game of 11 dimensional chess? Nope. Obama wanted to cut "entitlements" as much as Republicans; and, in doing so, would have begun the official end of the greatest achievements in Democratic history. But, to each his/her own.

14. Let us know when the Senate Dem Caucus will oppose Obama's proposed cuts.
This is more kabuki. It would be merely tiresome and boring, if so much weren't at stake.

As it is, it's nauseating.

20. My take is that you're wrong.
'Obama wanted to cut "entitlements" as much as Republicans' --

There's no evidence for that at all. He proposed cutting the privatization scheme known as Medicare Advantage, a GOP plot to kill the program. Other than that, your statement is flatly false.

18. Don't think he's spinless, that infers he's being made to do things
he doesn't want to do and I don't believe that is at all true. He's doing exactly what he wants - cutting Medicare and SSI and all working class perks & giving that money to the MCI & Wall St.
