John Boehner doesn't have votes locked down yet
Source: Politico

Speaker John Boehner told lawmakers Thursday that Republicans don’t yet have the votes to pass the GOP’s debt ceiling package, but predicted his leadership team would get the legislation across the finish line this evening.

“We do not have the votes yet,” Boehner told a closed meeting of House Republicans this morning in the Capitol. “But today is the day. We’re going to get it passed.”

Indeed, House Republicans are planning an evening vote on Boehner’s package to lift the debt ceiling — after the financial markets close in New York.

GOP leaders feel momentum has turned in their direction after the Congressional Budget Office released new estimates showing the Boehner plan reduces the deficit by more than the bill raises the debt limit. Republican leaders also spent much of Wednesday twisting arms and lobbying lawmakers to commit to a “yes” vote.

Will Republicans ever be be held accountable? Or, has the corporate media successfully convinced everyone in the end to give them a free pass, and blame Democrats, the President, even the "liberal" media?

Here Republicans are once again showing their hypocrisy in violating their one Cut, Cap & Balance pledge, but no one mentions this. Also, their proposed debt limit increase is smaller than anything put on the table, just so they can go through this fiasco again in a few months to hold the Nation hostage. Finally, they get to ignore the opinions of the public with impunity.

Of course, perhaps this is what the American people want, since they elected them to the House in overwhelming numbers in 2010. Afterall, did we expect anything different when you put a bunch of Glenn Beck fans in Congress?

1. He has got the votes, this is bullshit. He is trying to block the Senate in the corner so their
time he hopes except for them to accept what they give them

You just had the largest financial institutions in the country write to every Congress person and President that they must have this passed before the weekend

China has also come out chatising the "reckless" behavior

They know what they are doing

3. Actually, If "They Know What They Are Doing," And Purposely Bringing The Nation To The Brink...
...That's even worse. Also, I find it hard to imagine that the largest financial institutions want to go through another debt limit vote in just a few months. If we default, there could be a run on banks as people begin to doubt the safety of such institutions and the FDIC guarantee. A dramatic rise in interest rates could also spark another round of defaults among those with adjustable rate mortgages when the market is already saturaed with housing inventory.

If they know what they are doing, then they are acting like suicide bombers, who know what they are doing, which is to cause as much collateral damage in order to convey their message. The question is whether we will hold them responsible or has the media narrative of false equivalency taken root too deep?

2. Dont fade. Republicans are about to fold. Boehner will be the scapegoat.
They will blame the RINO. Purge all but true believers. At this point, the Republican party will be small enough to strangle in the bathtub. But the beauty is, we wont have to do the choking. The teafreaks will declare civil war, in an effort to create at great haste, the new political party. Republican party is irrelevant.

7. This will become a confidence vote on Boehner, as Speaker.

Boehner won't be removed, as Speaker, immediately, if the vote fails.

Boehner will gracefully step down to avoid the disgrace of being pushed.

Boehner is not my idea as Speaker, but the Republicans have worse choices.
I really don't want the Speakership going to one of the Tea Party.

9. question, stupid maybe. Why doesn't the Senate put up a vote to increase the debt limit with nothin
nothing else in it and pass it? Wouldn't that up the ante a little bit? Does it have to go through congress before it goes to the senate? They could put pressure on congress to stop the whole negotiating deal bullshit.
