Boehner Delaying Vote on Republican Debt Plan
Edited on Thu Jul-28-11 04:56 PM by cal04
Source: National Journal

Speaker John Boehner,-Ohio, is delaying the House vote on his plan to cut the deficit, Republican and Democratic sources told National Journal on Thursday. Majority Leader Eric Cantor's office said the vote would still take place later in the evening.

A Democratic source said only that Boehner was pushing back the vote. A senior Republican source said the House speaker, who was facing opposition in his caucus, had "delayed" the vote.

Boehner's plan would reduce the deficit by $915 billion over 10 years and increase the federal debt ceiling by $900 billion. The bill would allow for an additional $1.5 trillion increase in the debt ceiling early next year contingent on Congress enacting further deficit reductions.

According to MSNBC it's official
It's official, per NBC's Chuck Todd and Mike Viqueira: Boehner's bill has been pulled off the floor for the time being. The House is now re-naming post offices.

25. Clearly. He has no good options now. For him anyway. Any bill palatable
to the House GOP will be shredded by Reid in the Senate and laughed off by Obama. However, I still feel there is no chance for default. It's all fun and games until the Upper Class pokes an eye out. Then Congress will move within minutes to avert disaster.

Boner was drunk. Really! I watched and in all honesty, he was at the least, buzzed.

I don't hide my pint issues. I'm that uncle! At least I admit it...and don't go to work that way.

13. I think it's definitely in all of their best interests, to make any extension last past the 2012
election.

I can't believe Boehner thinks it's a good idea to go through this all again during the primaries and 2012 election.

15. See now.....
THIS shit is where the GOP "strategists" get to start reaping the whirlwind of Nixon's "Southern Strategy".
It only took thirty years, but it's finally reached the point where the "Base" is so sociopathic and uncontrollable that even their purported "leader" can't corral their loony asses.

21. Better than that...
it likely means that the GOP has no leverage and a lot of gloom going forward:

1.) House GOP passes the Reid bill.
or
2.) Boehner*/Pelosi build a bipartisan bill that carries all the Dems and scrapes off 25+ GOP to pass the House. (Such a bill likely favors Dems, is left-of-center.)
or
3.) The very unlikely possibility that both houses take up and pass the Gang of Six bill.
or
4.) Default and the GOP takes all the blame, probably lose the House and possibly lose 7+ in Senate. 2012 becomes an Obama cakewalk as Americans turn viciously on the Tea Party. Such a scenario likely carries the probability of the GOP having to hastily pass a straight U/D bill after the shit hits the fan to stem their disaster.

*-No matter his tactic, it's unlikely Cantor can move fast enough to take the Speakership.

27. Perfect title? Almost: Vote on Plan for Retiring "Republican Debt"
Time to correct the rhetoric and call the debt what it really is, "the rich Republican, corporate, military debt"

instead of what it is to be used for, the "break the backs of the poor and take away entitlements debt"

or worse still, the "break up the USA and steal the public lands and all those minerals debt".
