Sen. Kerry calls conservative House Republicans 'small group of absolutists'
Source: The Hill

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) slammed the conservative wing of the Republican Party as "a small group of absolutists" and "extremists" who are ignoring history "if they ever knew it."

"You know the Chinese are looking at us right now and they are just gleeful and incredulous at the way in which one of their great competitors is imploding in itself and it's happening because a small group of absolutists, of extremists, who don't understand the implications even of what they're doing are prepared to hold the nation's entire economy hostage," Kerry said Friday on MSNBC.

<...>

"They have forgotten history if they ever knew it," Kerry said. "They're forgetting that we did this at a time and created the greatest wealth in American history and we didn't savage those things that are going to produce the jobs of the future of America. What I'm afraid they're doing is coming in with such zeal and absolutism, they're going to eat American's seed corn with some of these cuts."

<...>

"And Speaker Boehner is negotiating, not with Democrats, but he's negotiating within his own party in order to be able to basically hold on to the leadership and satisfy that fringe," Kerry said.

5. I'm glad Sen. Kerry has spit this out. I think he's doing the President a big favor.
IMHO it would be politically impossible for the President to say these things. Thank you Sen. Kerry!

8. I cannot believe
this group could be willing to tank the country just because of their hatred of a black president and that's what I believe is behind all of this.

They don't care about a balanced budget or anything else; just make sure they tie his hands every way they can. I am sorry he thinks he needs bi-partisan co-operation. He'll never get it.

29. Originally, when he first became Speaker of the House, Boehner said he would work with Obama.
But his corporate masters would not allow it.

However, if he fails in this simple housekeeping chore, all bets are off.
Not only will the stock markets react, but we owe several countries 100s of billions of dollars.

This sort of horseshit, of a country failing to pay their bills, is what causes world wars!!

36. They also hate women making choices and poor people getting any kind of help
and they hate gays and foreigners. But they love their guns, love that the US wups ass in the world with it's military and love their hate-filled deity religion. They're not just racist.

16. Republican party joined Tea Party today
Tea Party wasn't republican yesterday but today they were; after being bought off with
balanced budget provision, in revised bill. Tea party is only one third of Gop caucus and one fifth of US House. Tea Party only uses Republican Party as tool for their agenda. They are controlling the Republicans in the house instead of being led by republicans. Boehner should have compromised with with the larger Democratic members of house, instead of appeasing TP. His bill probably would have survived the senate vote. But that would have looked like a Dem victory.

Maybe he should have called the Tea Party a vile name, that wouldn't come across as "puny." :sarcasm:

He is taking some small heat for not being out front on this (instead of the mayors) on his Facebook page and in this thread, but guess you can't please everyone. Kudos to his PR man, but will not say more cause me knows nothing and MA got this.

Obama should not have to be seen the only sane person (adult) in the room on this issue.

edit to add "seen"
