Iraq War Review: U.S. Finds Country Is Deadlier Now Than A Year Ago
Source: HuffPo

Frequent bombings, assassinations and a resurgence in violence by Shiite militias have made Iraq more dangerous now than it was just a year ago, a U.S. government watchdog concludes in a report released Saturday.

The findings come during what U.S. Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction Stuart W. Bowen Jr. called "a summer of uncertainty" in Baghdad over whether American forces will stay past a year-end withdrawal deadline and continue military aid for the unstable nation.

"Iraq remains an extraordinarily dangerous place to work," Bowen concluded in his 172-page quarterly report to Congress and the Obama administration on progress – and setbacks – in Iraq. "It is less safe, in my judgment, than 12 months ago."

The report cited the deaths of 15 U.S. soldiers in June, the bloodiest month for the U.S. military in Iraq in two years. Nearly all of them were killed in attacks by Shiite militias bent on forcing out American troops on schedule.

And move along, nothing to see here. :grr:

The who-cares war that bankrupts the country... uh, no, the already insufficient safety net.
The who-cares war that murdered and maimed hundreds of thousands of people, including US troops.
The who-cares war that Democrats promised to end when they were campaigning 5 days... uh, no, 5 YEARS ago.
The who-cares war that was not needed for anybody else than the bu$h family evil empire and its already obscenely Rich cronie$.

Yeah, that war nobody* in power cares about anymore. But hey, the most vulnerable economic victims are about to get "Reformed" because, well, the already insufficient safety net is about to go bankrupt due to that unnecessary who-cares waR.

"Reformed" by... broken-beyond-any-repair compromise**.

* nobody in power, not Dennis Kucinich, Alan Grayson, and all who still fight to end it, but have ZERO power to do it.
** nobody compromises with the above mentioned war-enders (or rather, the do-not-even-START-that-war-to-begin-with-ignored).

It was well forecasted that the removal of Saddam will lead to civil war...
All the factions, Shia, Sunni and others are waiting for our departure to settle up the control of the area. Saudi Arabia and Iran have well financed armies ready. And as many of us have said on DU, there will be no democracy, and our service members have been sacrificed for EXXon, Bush and the generals.

11. Hadn't our own history taught us how effective guerilla warfare could be?
I guess that's why defense contractors envisioned Iraq as a never-ending feeding frenzy at the public trough.

12. This Was Predictable And Predicted
Frankly, this has gone better than expected -- not worse.

And what would the critics do, put another 50,000 combat troops back in Iraq. I think not.
